me and two of mates are touring europe there is another thread for that but i just wanted some cheapish changes i could make to my 2002 cbr 600f sport to make it better for touring. Even if you can only suggest things for other bikes it would be appreciated. Thanks

a cushion of sorts (airhawk or similar), other than that.. not alot I wouldn't imagine.. maybe bar risers?

Much cheaper than an airhawk is a 'putnams stadium seat' - £11 or thereabouts.. just sew some elastic webbing to the tabs and partially inflate it. not as 'pretty' as the airhawk.. but equally effective.

an alternative is a sheepskin. not pretty at all. but very effective. use a 'natural' one and the seat will always be cool.. even when left in full sun.

either or both these little mods are cheap and can effectively triple the amount of time you can ride without a numb bum. They may not look pretty.. but they do work. and no-one will pay a blind bit of notice in europe. You can use them just for the longest runs and whip them off as and when they're not required.

btw.. if you're camping the putnams and pad make a great 'pillow'.

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

i want to avoid a topbox so using a lomo 30L hold all great little bag.

and how much should i be looking to spend on something like a scottoiler?

Got my Scottoiler v-system for £64 delivered about 2 months ago, fitted it along with a new chain and sprockets and havent yet had to adjust the chain once, not even for the initial stretch of the chain you usually get.

You can either go for a normal one (as above) or one with a touring resevoir which is more money and just means it can hold more oil. A standard bottle of the oil should probably last 2-3000 miles and costs like a fiver or something. They claim that a Scottoiler can extend the life of your c&s by up to 3x.
