Had my bike just over a week now as passed last friday Smile Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

In that time, i have noticed a clunk and grinding noise coming from my gearbox when at low speeds (up to about 30). I took it to a local suzuki dealer and the mechanic said he couldn't say exactly what it was, without getting inside it and labour being £55 an hour...... ouch. Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

So i decided to, as my neighbor offered, do it myself and take the cheap but time consuming job. I am obviously new to it all but my neighbor has been into biking for about 30/40 years now and know's alot about engines and so on, so we are gonna spend the next two weeks, as easter holiday, and hopefully get it dont for a much, MUCH lower price Smile

Just thought i'd put this thread on here to see if anyone knows what i'm talking about and knows exactly what IS the problem, and also to keep my fellow BCF's posted on the status of my bike Wink

So you're going to look at the chain in the process of rebuilding the gearbox?
That's like giving someone an eye test while you're giving them brain surgery.
Gasket are going to cost enough to make you only want to open a gearbox if you really must. inspecting an adjusting a chain and clutch costs nothing really

If it's just a noise, don't bother doing anything until it physically stops doing stuff. No point really, because not much can go that vastly wrong it'll take anything else out.

We stripped it all down today bled the oil etc, opened up the first part of the engine and found the final drive sprocket is, as the manuals say, f**ked. We got the engine off just to give it all a good wash and get the oil filter out.

Am going to be getting;
-Oil Filter
-Oil
-Final Drive Sprocket
-Brake fluid

Fair enough we could have just taken off the side of the engine and looked at the sprocket, but this was funner, and me being new to bikes I'm learning all about my bike Thumbs Up

Better to do it now than later to be honest, pictures soon Smile

So you started stripping an engine before you looked at the front sprocket? Laughing
Well at least it's going to be a cheap fix! Though i do recommend a whole new chain and sprocket set.

And yeah your right, cheap fix, just bought a new sprocket, oil filter, fork dust seals and fork seals as mine are leaking, all for £50 Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I estimate the life span of this bike being shockingly short.

If your front sprocket was so badly hooked, the chain will be knackered. You need to change the chain because when it breaks it could very well trash your engine cases.

I am going to do not worry. We are checking it all over before we just put it back in, so we don't just waster our time to get it back out again if the problem IS further inside the engine than the sprocket.

Cheers for the concern Wink
