So, I joined this forum just last week and I guess some of you might have read a bit about me and the fact that I don't even own a bike yet. Now, I was in the shower this morning when an idea hit me about starting a biker's magazine here in Ghana. Folks here usually prefer listening to the radio or watching tv than reading so we don't have anything of its kind here. So I was thinking this could really be unprecedented more so when we don't even have online sites, sales sites, clubs or even associations dedicated to biking. I feel quite strongly about this idea which I believe will go far and faster than a 250cc engine if I could make it happen. I am just looking at glossy pictures and some adverts for now and then depending on circulation figures, delve into more technical stuff later. I will be throwing in some motogp savouries to keep the juices flowing for readers. Not bad for a bikeless dude, huh?

Guess you've just torpedoed my thread with your picture. As they say a picture says a thousand words.

Starting a magazine will require a significant amount of capital and hours

yeah man, thanks. I see challenges but I have to give it a go. If it fails, well at least I tried. Only hope the financial loss wouldnt set me back too far. Starting new things in this environment especially with the media is quite an arduos task. I will certainly try.

That's true but I'm looking to start small and grow gradually. Content is not an issue since I can easily get stuff to fill the pages. I got circulation too covered. The only thing is getting a publisher crazy enough to give me a chance. I'm focussing on bikers in Ghana so the locals get to see images of their own people spread out through the pages.

As Bike magazines are generally aimed at those with a fair disposable income to spend on bikes, accessories and the magazine, just how many such affluent bikers are there in Ghana or even Africa as a whole? You'd need to attract advertisers to pay for the magazine, and they would have to be convinced that the advertisement will pay off in terms of sales.

TL DR

Somehow, I don't think a bike magazine in West Africa, during a time of world recession/depression is a viable proposition.

Why not take the idea above and make a forum for bikers in Ghana? Would be much more useful I would have thought Thumbs Up
