Hello All
D600 94 Charges ok up to 2000 Rpm then the charge rate drops off to below spec, even worse with lights on. Went from Northampton to north London and back last night and arrived home with a candle for a headlight and a very flat battery. I am thinking rectifier. Anyone agree with me?
The Figures:
14.7 v dc at 2000 rpm falling to 13.8 at 5000 rpm measured across battery with lights off.
Unregulated AC output Phase to earth 15v at idle falling to 6v at 5000Rpm, again with lights off.
Generator coil resistance is considerably lower than specified in the haynes book but I forgot to write the figures down
The battery will take a charge overnight but will soon flatten with repeated attempts to start the engine when the bike has been standing for a few weeks, this is not a problem at the moment as the bike is used daily (well it was ok until this problem started). The battery is probably more than 5 years old.
All electrical connectors clean and tight.

After taking these readings I am wondering which way to jump, Battery, rectifier or generator.

Thank you very much for any help you may give.

Agree - measure everything again with a battery you know is ok. You can use a car battery and jump leads but disconnect the old battery first.

Bit of an update. Tried a known good battery and the result was the same. Noticed that the regulator got noticeably warm within about a minute, so I have ordered a new one. See what happens when it is fitted.

Cheers

You've checked the AC voltage from the generator? If so it shouldn't be dropping as the revs go up, it should be going higher.

Do all 3 phases (i'm assuming its a 3 phase) AC voltage match?
And have you tried checking for resistance between each phase and earth?
Thumbs Up

Had charging issues on my Divvy recently - got a 2nd hand reg/rec off ebay for about a tenner which sorted the charging issues - bike slowly dying but was using it during the day so wasn't obvious. Just make sure you get the right one - either 4 or 5 pin... not sure when they changed but early Divvy S are 4 pin, later ones and 'N' versions I think are 5 pin.

Found this fault finding diagram which was very handy indeed in diagnosis - there's specific checks you can do on the reg/rec to see if it's buggered - assuming you've got a meter

Good luck Thumbs Up

All voltages are the same, will re-check phase to earth continuity tomorrow, but I think that they are not earthed, and do not appear to be in the wiring diagram. But I could be wrong.
Thanks
