 |
|
Hi guys...
I'm interested in picking up a yamaha r125 I found for 2.1k... It's immaculate condition, part service history and 6k miles.
Speaking to the guy on the phone he said the only thing was it was a Category C. The story is the bike was stolen, recovered and found with a sligh crack in the fairing where it was lying down. The bike was literally picked up and put in a van.
Apparently this won't effect my insurance preimum or anything like that, but when I come to sell it is this gonna come back to bite me in the arse?
I mean it will be in the v5 document won't it, but am I legally bound to tell them the story about or can I just sell it, because by the looks of things it hasn't effected the bike really in anyway. (I'm not trying to sell this bike for a profit or anything, just thinking of the future)
Cheers |

I don't think it appears on the V5 but if the buyer does a HPi check on the bike it will return as a Category C write off. Cat C is surprising, I'd have thought if it was just a crack in the fairing it would be Cat D...? ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

Same, but the bike was claimed on insurance before it was found.. So the insurance company already paid out... Would that be why? |

Uh... why not spend £500 or so on getting a license, then buy a 250+ bike that'll go better, cost less and be cheaper to insure? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

As Marjay said it won't make a difference at all and only show up on the HPI check. The Mrs just bought a cat C for the H.I.S.S steering lock damage, it was replaced and good to go.

It may make it harder to sell on in future but personally I don't see Cat Cs and Ds a problem. Worth looking over it properly before you buy it though. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Just do a HPI check...
Personally, it still sounds a lot for a 4t 125. You'd be better off buying something a little less flashy, doing your test and buying an old rs or simular.
I don't really see the apeal of the R125's. Just seem so expensive for what they are.
If you're middle age you could pay for your test, and still buy and insure an early R1 for the same price as it would cost you for an R125 ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

If it's Cat C, they wont issue a V5 until the Cat C has been 'cleared' by an MOT...
Good way to flog a stolen bike that......
Hammer out the locks, chuck it in a van, take it to another county sell it from a lock up.......
"Yeah, it was Stolen..... look, the wrote it off for the locks and this ere crack in the fairing........ No mate, dont have the log book...... they wont issue one 'till its been cleared by an MOT....... and I dont have the time..... I just want rid....... but its no big hassle..... you just take it for a test, then send of a form....."
Could be a genuine Stolen recovered....... could be just stolen...... ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Sort of echoing Rogerborg (with some distortion)
Either buy a YBR/CG, or if you want something that looks sporty an older CBR125 for far less. The CBR will go no faster than the CG/YBR, but neither will your R125, since they're all pretty much the same in reality, that's why they're learner legal. And non-biking people with no clue will think the CBR is a sports bike, but be prepared to be laughed at by bikers who know its a pretend sports bike. As it's an older CBR it'll likely be pre-dropped, saving you some money and the effort of taking the pristine look off it yourself.
Ride it around and get used to it, maybe a couple of lessons. Do an A2 test on it, sell it and recoup the money to spend on a big bike (SV?) and fit some restrictors for 2 years (or till they fall out ) ____________________ Prize cunt
