im needing to shift my zx7r from kent to glasgow. Im too young to rent a van as far as i've seen but also i dont want to do a return trip. I would ride it up however im going to be driving my car up so cant do both at once.

any idea how much it generally costs? im not in much of a rush as il be moving at the start of june so got plenty of time. My brother got his bike transported from newcastle to kent for £40 but i think that was cause it was the seller who did it, either way he no longer has their number Sad.

did some checks and got stupid prices like £450 which is way too much as i could drive up, fly back down then ride up for less money.

what companies have people used in the past which were good and cheap?

Hi Damz.

Put it on shiply. I don't know if you've used it before but people bid each other down to transport your bike for you. You can then choose who you want to go with for that.

https://www.shiply.com/

I would've offered to ride it up for you but I'm no longer insured to ride other peoples bikes.

Are you moving back to Glasgow?

-David.

Give SOS Motorcycle Recovery a call, they do a national delivery service for £150. Give them a call or look on their website.

It's a long ride.
In the past, I've trained it / got a lift to bikes, and rode them home.
What are you taking it there for? Are you going there to ride the bike when you're there? Do you need to be with the bike when it gets there etc?

It's a long drive, I've got a trailer and tow-car you are welcome to borrow if you pay for everything needed (petrol etc). But it'll probably work out cheaper just to get it delivered by a firm. I think I had a Speedfight II delivered when I was 16 for £100, a guy with a van did it.

Cant you get a family member or friend to drive the car up and send them on a plane home while you ride?

Edit: go on gumtree and type in man with van.. seems to turn up a lot of results near me.

I read a horror story somewhere of someone who did that. The bike fell off the trailer on the way and it turned out the courier used didn't have the correct insurance for transporting vehicles and wouldn't pay out so beware!

It takes a lot of faith to use someone off shiply. Most are fine but it's all too easy for your bike to just disappear.

i've had a few bikes brought up from the south (southampton etc) to stirling.
some places will quote you silly prices, but the average seems to be around 100-150 quid.
i have the names of a couple of decent companies if your interested?
if your quite flexible with dates it makes a difference to the price, never used shiply personally, but i think it would take a lot of trust....
cheers,
GAZ

It's like Ebay, shipers have feedback.

I used a guy who was great, it delivered a bike from Plymouth to Essex (280 miles) for £70. Arrived about 4 hours later than he said but he kept me informed the whole time. Very happy!
