Hello

I’m really struggling, I had an R6 in 2006-2008, my insurance ended on the 28-3-2008, I am now trying to insure a GSX-R 600 and I am being quoted crazy amounts as I haven’t had a bike for the last three years.

I have had my license for 6 years now, has anyone come across this before?? And what’s the cheapest way to get round it???

Hopefully someone has a good idea to beat the system??? i.e. any insurers that relax this 3 year rule?

Cheers

Alex

hmmm, nothing that i can think of tbh. The only thing that i can say is maybe see what the price is if you tell them that you've done an advanced riding course recently. And if it makes a big difference, then go an do said riding course, then get yourself insured.

As far as I know insurers only accept NCB that's less than 2 years old. I knew someone who was in the same situation and the only people who would honour his 3 years old NCB were his last insurer.

You verging into 'born again biker' territory I am afraid. Bikers that have a dry spell have a much higher chance of crashing when they get into it, I doubt there is much you can do other than suck it up for the first year and earn some NCB.

Some advanced training might help and would certainly improve your riding/safety if you havent been out for a few years, not convinced it would offset the insurance price hike a considerable amount though.

Well……thanks for the quick replies!

The sickening thing is, my old insurance policy finished 3 years and two weeks ago!!!! Bennett’s would’ve taken the NCB if it was two weeks earlier, and the difference is my insurance was £350 and now its £1300!!!!

I understand the “born again biker” theory, completely get that, but a bit of common sense sometimes could be applied!!!

Bloody hell, £1300???? I just insured my new gixxer 600 with one year NCB for £400 and I thought that was bad enough!

Have you tried ringing round insurers and then playing one off against another?

Makes you wonder if selling a bike, if its worth insuring a 50cc ped (just pic a reg plate from one in a scrapper or something) to insure cheaply just to keep the no claims going

www.thebikeinsurer.com

Have a look on there.... When i was 17 i used them and paid £400 on a 1999 ZX6R with 1 year NCB off a ped. You will struggle to insure a bike using your NCB as you haven't rode and insurers to tend to right off your NCB for this.

I had something similar a good few years back.
I had been using the same insurance company to insure both my car and my bikes for about 15 years.
Then I took a break from bikes for a couple of years, but still insured my car with them.
When I asked for a new quote for a similar bike to the one I last had insurance on, the quote was over eight times higher Twisted Evil

I told them to "get stuffed" and cancelled all my insurances with them.
Poor treatment of loyal customers results in no trade and I hope they go bust Evil or Very Mad .
It took a bit of shopping around, but in the end I got a sensible quote from Swintons believe it or not.

£1300!!!!!1111!1eleven!111!

WTF, paid £600 FC on an '01 CBR600 when I had just passed, that went down to £350 within a year (with 1yr NCB).

Clean licence? dodgy area?
