If you're getting 1,2,3,5,7,8,9,0,-,= keys type out OK, and there's not some alternative function like Numpad locked on for those keys (any alternate colour printing on the keys?), then I'd guess your keyboard is fooked.
It could be that it got some liquid or something on it in the past that has deteriorated the tracks or pads underneath the plastic membrane. Only those keys are affected because they either share a common track or both tracks or pads are shagged. Cleaning with alcohol sometimes works, but you have to remove the keyboard and carefully pull it apart to get at it. On a laptop it's guaranteed to be a total ballache.
Try booting to some Live OS or Boot CD (Knoppix, Hirens or whatever) so you can completely isolate the OS from the equation.
Do an ebay search on how much a replacement keyboard costs for your make and model first, before you start pulling things apart. Replacing a keyboard ain't too bad, once you've figured out which combo of screws and awkward plastic crap you've got to unclip and move out the way to get at the ribbon cable and unlock the socket for it. There's a reason these things are made by Chinese and not big cludge-fingered English bods. ____________________ Prize cunt
