Is there such a thing as a security device you can get that would take a photo of an intruder, then send it somewhere safe, like your moby or a PC?

Yes, an IP cam.

They're plugged into the internet or usually wireless and you can access them from anywhere in the world via a secure connection or set them up to do certain things, i.e. record video on montion or take photos on motion and email them to you or store on a server.

If you could find one a Voltek Quadcam system used to do this as well as normal recording but does require a computer to be turned on.

^^ You can but requires the PC to be on 24/7 like you say, the IP cams connect to routers so no need.

Sounds like you'd need a computer to be constantly running which might be a problem. What I could do with is a "stand alone" camera that can run on betteries that would start up through a motion sensor and record on a device at a different location. I'm guessing there's a lot of older, out of date security stuff that goes cheap secondhand. I'll see what I can find on eBay.

I forget some people turn their PCs off. Laughing

There's cameras that don't need any internet connection and can be setup to record motion onto an SD card if needed.

Entirely depends on what your requirements are... I have a client who has 4 IP cams in his villa in Florida. It's purely for renting out and he rarely goes over there, so having a computer switched on 24/7 isn't practical.
