YZF600 Thundercat, T (99), 23k, heated grips, datatool, crash bungs, 11 months MOT. Runs and rides lovely. Could do with a bit of TLC, but otherwise lovely. £1600, but I reckon I could get it for less. Anyone any experience? Very comfortable ride, I think I'd be liking it...

Any opinions more than welcome.

You know, I never asked about service history. Seen the V5 and there were some other docs, but it didn't enter my head to ask. D'oh!

Find out when its last major service was, also take it for a test ride.
How much meat on the tyres?
How much bite left on the pads?
Miles left on the chain + sprockets?
How does it sound?
How does the sub-frame look?
Have the powerbands worn out?

Rides nice, plenty of tyres left (look new), brakes feel good, chain looks new, back sprocket also looks well. Sounds fabulous, started first time from cold, 1 minute of choke and was happily idling. No blue smoke, good back pressure. Subframe looks good, all panels seem to fit good, can see no major discrepancies, accelerates and brakes in a straight line, no pulls.

Will ask next week about service history. I'm thinking it may be the one...

Offer £1450, then settle for £1500.

Never pay the asking price to a dealer.

It's only a little backstreet garage. Got loads of easily sorted Cat C and Cat D write offs, of which this isn't one. The guy in the shop was also working on bikes out back, but was more than happy to come out and talk to me and my son-in-law. He sold a lovely 1200 Bandit to some old geezer when we were there.

Then we went to J&S, who couldn't have been less helpful. Talk about not being interested in your business...

Knackers. Just done HPI check. Mileage as of 23/11/10 was 44k. Advert/MOT cert says 23k. Clocked or new speedo? Either way, that's the end of that.

If it's as straight as you say, it looks about right for the money.

The main issues with them are people reminding you of 80's cartoon characters every time you say what bike you have, and some questionable "shell suit" colour schemes.

That was a good idea, but it didn't require a HPi check. You can check MOT histories online and it includes the mileage at each one. only trouble is - you need the MOT test number off the cert, or the Document Reference Number off the V5C to do it Sad
