I’m going to be best mate to one of my best mates in August.
I’m currently planning the stag do but can’t figure out how to sort the funds out.
I have a list basically of about 12 guys who are coming. I don’t know some of them, I have their names and numbers though.
I was going to plan a paintball excursion, lunch and beers, then back to our home town for a night out.

What do you think is the best way of tackling the money issue here?
Pay for all of it then call around asking for money to be transferred to me? Or call around and ask for money upfront, for examples…

Cheers Thumbs Up

Upfront mate theres no point in your shelling out coin because one of them will back out or have a problem when it comes to paying. Means you will be out of pocket. Best thing to do would be to contact them all and say your sorting it out and you need £x amount of coin on a set date.

The paintball is the only thing you need money for surely?

Most paintball things cost around £10-15 per person, maybe a discount for stags. Either way, if people have trouble coughing up that kind of cash on request then thats their problem.

Make it easy for them. Phone them up this weekend, tell them the script, tell them you need all moneys by the following weekend, no exceptions, if the moneys not there, there will be no booking, end of story. It's up to them to get the money to you, be either in person, wiring the money through the bank, paypal, whatever.

Under no circumstances should you ever dip into your own pocket and then collect the cash to reimburse yourself. I rarely do this with friends I've known for 20 years, let alone complete strangers, because it's a fact of life that people will fuck you about, and the last thing you want is to be doing all the running around and that you're out of pocket whilst doing it.

I would pay for it all for good mates but not for people I didn't know.

Yeah it is, sorry it wasn’t clear.

Ok, thanks for the advice I think I’m going to call them all individually and say “Money to me first week of May” then I’ll book. Who doesn’t come up with it, won’t be going.

I was having a look online, as I’m in Cheltenham, Bristol would be good for me, somewhere in Wales perhaps. Unless one of you know a place closer/better. Looking at Task Force or Delta Force as I’ve been with them before and it was very organised.

Been to ones in Nottingham and Solihull, given you're in cheltenam your equidistant by the looks of things to either Bristol or Solihull, so the deal breaker will be whether you wanna go out on the piss in Bristol or Birmingham I guess.

Yep. Money up front is the only way.

As you say, set a date. Make it totally clear. No money by date x, no go. If you pull out, tough, money is gone unless you find someone else to take your place.

I shelled out up front for seven VERY close mates for a trip to Poland and various activities. These were lads I regularly drink with down the town, at their houses, know their wives/girlfriends, work with etc and I had enough bother. 12 almost randomers is a no go mate!

If you state a date for entries then stick to it and don't book anything until its in your hand, you can often add extra on if someone ponys up the dough later on but its a PITA getting names off lists and deposits back! At 12 people the law of averages say theres going to be at the least 1 maybe 2 who will back out and subsequently enquire about the deposit coming back!

Best of luck mate, hope you have a belter whatever happens!!

The way I did it was set up a Facebook event. I'm not a huge FB fan but it really worked well. I invited everyone who the stag wanted to be there and put up the bank details for payment. I estimated how many people I reckoned would go and paid deposits for everything that needed a deposit. That way I wouldn't be massively out of pocket if people let me down. As it happened I got it spot on and it worked really well.
