At 9am this morning a bus crashed into it.... the shop owner across the road took down the registration plate of the bus, i went down to the willesden bus garage, blew off some steam (I've exams coming up ) i really didn't need this, and while on the phone to a friend to figure out what to do (first time this happens to me) another vehicle was reversing into it so i took some pics and while moving somewhere else, i got stopped by police officers because they thought i was stealing it.......
I 've notified the police by filling out a form (the guy from the bus company said to do so) and I've called up the companies claims services and they said that someone should pop by to have it checked. i dunno what to do any help people???

I've phoned up the insurance company of the bus,

Jesus christ. That looks totally fucked. I'd suggest it wasn't just hit, but physically run over. That or the bus hit it doing 40 mph.

Hard lines mate, hope you get it sorted out Thumbs Up

So the bus hit it and drove off, and you've got witnesses?

Solicitor, sue 'em. Smile

the bus hit it, stopped, looked around for the owner (ie me still dreaming in bed) the drove off, and came back with someone from the company lifted the bike and left a note under the seat saying call metroline willesden, all this of course according to my witness

That's slightly less bad, then. They've barely covered themselves. Still... they've got corporate insurance, so make 'em pay full value for the bike, at least.

Tbh, I'm not an expert on this, but I believe you'd do it via passing their details along with an explanation of what happend, plus witness details to your insurance company?

They'll almost certainly make a couple of pathetic offers, which you can justifiably feel insulted by, so could well be worth holding out for what you think the bike or cost of repairing the damage is worth.

Citizens Advice will probably be able to tell you more, though. Smile

If he's twatted it hard enough to do that much damage (ripped the grabrail out of its mountings?), its almost certainly bent the frame. And with the hornet being a single piece frame (no subframe) i'd say it was a right off.

Get the claim in asap.
Cash for new bike
Loss of earnings, you need it for work.
Travel costs to get to work and back
Travel costs to go pick up/bring back a new bike
Any aftermarket parts on it? Claim for those aswell.
General costs for your time and effort in searching for a new bike

Get everything you can out of them.

Gutted for you mate, but you could come out of this with a profit if you play your cards right...

Realistically, how much am I looking at with claiming the above (apart from work as i'm a full time student) If i could i would add in the emotional factor lol

You don't lose your NCB when it is 100% the other party's fault. No-one's claiming against your insurance.

I'd put money on that being written off.

Keep badgering their insurance company, and start shopping for a new bike!

be carefull about taking a hire vehicle or bike becuase if the other side refuse to pay youll have to foot the bill and these things aint cheap at £60-100 a day! Shocked

good luck with the claim you seem to have a very strong case,
especially with witnesses, saying that he left the scene of an accident i would contact the police just to ayre on the side of caution. esp the fact he didnt make an effort to find the owner(you).

Hi

I also would suspect that is a write off even if the frame is straight (and the Hornet frame is famed for bending easily). And it wouldn't take that much of an impact to do that damage.

I also would be careful about taking a hire bike. The bills count mount up rapidly (easily to more than the cost of buying the hire bike), and you are obliged to minimise costs (not quite the wording I am looking for, but basically mean you can't go spending money like water thinking that they will just pay up whatever you have spent).

All the best

Keith

It's a write off, look for similar bike and ask for cost of that plus at least 50% for your trouble.
Keep old one for spares or flog it.

Bloke I work with got knocked off fairly recently, he had a 2002 'Blade, bike got written off. Insurance organised him a hire bike, closest they could find was a CBF1000.

He nearly fell off his seat when he discovered it was actually costing the insurers £130 per day. He's had it for a month now. Another half a month and he could buy the bike outright.

But yeah, that Hornet is almost certainly written off. It won't affect your no claims bonus as you had nothing to do with the incident. Remember insurance will replace every part affected by the crash, using genuine Honda bits. Anything that has the slightest scratch on it, so that's forks, engine casings, rear bodywork (probably up to a grand there straight away) etc.

What eventually wrote off my mate's bike was honda wanting £650+VAT for a radiator that and a set of fairings was £1500 damage on it's own.

when you accept a hire bike you sign an agreement that allows 51 weeks "Credit" for the hire cost essentially if the claim isnt sorted out within that time they will be looking to you to repay this and yes I had one for 6 weeks at £75 per day.

You have to ask your self if its resonable for you to need a replacement bike, if you live 2 miles from work on a bus route its probably not, however on the other hand claims are normally sorted out quick as they are incurring further costs, but pressure will be on you when they make an offer, if they make a silly offer and you push for more, they may try to counter act the bike costs as they have made an offer. if you can avoid it I wouldnt take the replacement bike, but thats not to say you cant claim bus/taxi/train fares

Yes its a good thing, means that the bike will almost certainly be uneconomical to repair, so it will be written off, and you get money to buy a new bike..

best start looking now for adverts of bikes for sale as proof of the value of your bike, you will need them to bridge the gap between what they offer and what you consider it to be worth!
