i have an nsr rr 125 foxeye here and i am having trouble i dont know much about engines whatsoever but ive been searching for as much help as possible and am catching on so heres whats up.

Bike was running fine until after a short ride i stop for a while and when i was warming it up it just died and would not start again. so this is what works.
-Getting a spark
-Getting compression
-Piston and rings in perfect order

heres whats happening, when bumping goes into gear and hits around 5000rpm and when i pull on accelerator it sounds like flooding . And when i pull the clutch back in it cuts out.

I've cleaned the carb to the best of my ability but i am not ruling it out, coke in or out is making no difference.
Any help is appreciated im busting my arse to get back on the road just had a spin on the push bike its just not the same

Any ideas?

How have you tested compression ?

How have you inspected piston and rings ?

My friend was round he said i was getting compression, he may be wrong i dont have the eqiptment to test. i took the piston out and checked, it its tip top like the rest of the bike everything ive looked at has been pretty immaculate inside.

Are you sure the fuel tap is in the right position and it has good fuel in it?

I know it sounds obvious but I had that problem and it was because it was fuelless Embarassed

Always worth double checking Thumbs Up

If you haven't tested the compression then get a cheap tester off ebay for around £11. You can't tell if you are getting proper compression unless you have the gear! Also just because a piston and rings look good doesn't mean they are.

You are looking at 142 Psi +- 28 as a correct reading

Sounds like you may be starving it of fuel hence the reving up. Check the filter on the fuel tap and inline one if fitted and also the screen fitted to the fuel inlet on the carb. Finally check the float valve as it may be faulty and shutting the fuel off.

Have you checked the choke hasn't jammed on, when you operate the lever check the cable is actually moving as this would also cause the symptoms described.

Why are you bumping it? Will it not start off the button?

If you lubed it up with 2 stroke then it should burn off fairly quickly. Check that your oil pump is set properly if it is constantly smoking.

If the bike is reving by itself it can also be the sign of an air leak, i'd check the carb to manifold rubber for any splits.

It'll smoke like a basted for a while untill its warmed up, this is pretty normal.
If its still smoking after riding for 5-10 mins then check the 2t oil pump is calibrated.
As for the running issues, when you next get it started, turn the idle screw (choke on) untill you can take your hand off the throttle and then work it back untill the revs are somewhere reasonable (<3k). Once it has warmed up then try ajusting the screw a little more to get the idle back to 1,500.

Just out of curiosity, do you know if the power valve servo is functioning?

It should open at idle, close at 2,000rpm and open again at 7,500rpm.

I had some electrical issues a while back and when i lose all power (accept the engine of course) with the power valvue closed then it wasnt so happy around idle.

Just a thought.

Best regards

-Jvr

cant get it started again, gutted i had to let it stop but i had to get the door open.

well the power valve (on the right hand side of the engine?) is turning, and i had plently of power before it cut out. took the spark out and it is pretty oily, but i could not rev it up at all before so i think im going in the right direction here.

I have a shitty ammeter here gona test some of the electics(when i learn how to use it which should be about an hour).

what do you reckon? And thanks for everyones help so far Smile
