What's the MOT test 'rules' for spoked wheels, and rusty spokes?

Don't know, but for the past 7 years i've never had a tester do the screwdriver test listening for loose spokes etc. And my spokes are tres rusty. (next job on the list)

Surface and mild rust isn't a problem but if the tester reckons it's "excessive corrosion" then it's a fail. If they're rusty a going over with wire brush, emery, wire wool etc before the test wouldn't go amiss to show they've not that bad- thinned or necked

They can fail them on:

b. a spoke which is missing, cracked, excessively loose bent or corroded.

In reality, anywhere I've taken them rattles a scredriver or spanner round them. If they all go "ping" it passes. If one goes "thunk" it fails.

if the rust is bad enough to seriously weaken the spoke it will fail . so if its just surface rust it should pass

Spokes must be noticeably 'thinned' by rust for a wheel to fail, in my experience. If the wheel is straight and the spokes aren't obviously damaged or ridiculously rusted, it'll pass.
