Hello peeps!

I do believe you guys and gals are the best source of impartial information around!!!

I'm almost ready to part with my hard earned cash, but what do I go for? I've narrowed my choice down to 2 bikes now.

*CBR400 or VFR400*

Can somebody, anybody, give me the lowdown on each of the bikes... Good bits, bad bits, which years and models to avoid, what to look out for, blah, blah, blah! I've not really got much of a clue! I just want it to move and purr nicely! (If it moves and purrs better then my friends TVR then I'll be in heaven!)

Any comments would be muchly appreciated and rewarded with kind words from me!

Thank you!

LorettaxXx

CBR400 seems to be the coice for women. Bloody nice bikes. And generally better paint-schemes than the VFR (no white:))
I think the gull-arm is the better model but the tri-s are doing well.
Anna and Vicky both have CBR400's and have nothing but praise for them

If you want a nice sound, then a V4 (VFR) equipped with a decent race can (like, er, BlueFlame Rolling Eyes) cannot be beaten Very Happy

We have recently found out that a CBR is probably faster than a VFR on the quarter mile, but I think that the VFR has a better top end (about 5mph).

If you you decide on a VFR, then try to get an NC30, although I know someone that is selling their NC24 quite cheaply...

As for CBRs, a pre-1990 model is referred to as a "Tri-Arm" or NC23, and a post 1990 model is called a "Gull-Arm" or NC29...both terms refer to the swingarm on the bike.

Annabella has a Tri-Arm CBR;
Viper has a Gull-Arm CBR;
Stew has a VFR (NC30).

You may want to leave messages to these ppl if you have any more specific questions Confused

Tinny, I disagree on the speeds.
Stew rode his VFR and V's CBR and got the same times. I reckon there's nothing in it as far as speed.

and just to mention this month's ride is running a review of CBR4 v VFR4 v GSXR4 v FZR4.

could be of some more help to you.

I'd personally pick the CBR though

Stew managed 13.8s on a CBR, whereas he only managed around 14.5s on the VFR.

Eat That, Demonic! Laughing

ive been on vipers cbr and moles vfr/rvf?

the cbr seems to accelerate much faster than the vfr/rvf and the in line 4 engine pulls more than the other, thats why i personally think the cbr is better evan though the vfr/rvf is faster top end.

but hey speeds not every thing Smile

Tin IS right...Stewy got 13.8 on my bike. Wink

....not as good as my 13.2 though!! Laughing .....hahahaha!!!!

Loretta:
All the 4's a pretty much of a muchness.
Theres not *that* much difference between any of them really.

Although the CBR does have a lower seat to the VFR, so hence us little ladies take a liking to it.
The VFR also seems to be reported of being a bit of a git around town, doing low speeds.

Although its mainly down to the bikes comfort / looks in the end.
Whatever ya prefer! Smile

13.843 secs on V's nice CBR400 (still not sure on the yellow though) @97.4 mph

14.222 secs on my old (1989) NC30 @96.98mph

I did get a slightly better reaction time on Vs bike though, and the NC30 has a stupidly long first gear for a 400 (60mph+), I would like to have seen how tins RVF compared with V's CBR as they are of similar age.
I would also like to have seen one of the girls try out my bike, just to see how much the weight would affect the times and speed.

I prefered the fit of my VFR (wider seat for my fat ass?) as the pegs felt in a more appropriate place for my feet. Best bet is have a ride on both and decide which you find most comfortable for you.

Just don't get an RF400R. Slower 0-60, 1/4 mile, same-ish top end though, more comfortable but hard to find bits for. Or an RVF, just an over-expensive 400 for posers.

hi

all the 400's are basically the same performance wize, ive ridden a ZXR 4 and a VFR........ no CBR yet vik Laughing , the only differences are looks and sound, prices are about the smae too, so pick the one that looks/sounds best, shame the CBR donst have the sound of the ZXR4 oh well
