I'll be one bike amongst many at the ferry terminal, it gets quite packed for such a small car park. I'll be on a silver Varadero and I are a scruff.

I'll look out for a redhead, no hair, just a red head!

I'm riding down in the morning in company with a blue and white BMW, we usually get stuck in the massive queues at Hindhead on the A3, even on bikes.

When you finally get to the holiday centre, a big hairy bloke dressed as a french maid greets you with the words, "Are you sure you're at the correct rally?"

Wotcha.

I've done this rally a few times, but a word of warning. This is not a bikers only rally, anyone can enter the field. Make sure you do not leave anything of value where it can be easily picked up. I lost my video camera this way, and other club members had stuff taken as well. It's a case of once bitten - I'll never do this rally again. This is one of the reasons I prefer bikers only rallies with no cars allowed on site.

I personally know the organisers Stan & Jane. I went for three years in a row (from the beginning), that's enough for me.

It was better in the beginning - but has grown too big for my liking. The bigger a rally gets, the less friendly and less camaraderie there is. Thumbs Down

Wotcha.

Same here. I remember Stan from the days of the Gurt Gallybagger, when we all wore shirts with the slogan "Stanley is a wanker" on 'em Very Happy

The Gallybagger sort of split into the Over the Edge - same weekend and only five miles apart on the same coastline. As you say, sometimes bigger ain't necessarily better.

Yeah, I know people who are/were determined to stick with the Gallybagger, whereas people like Stevie One Man One Mandolin did both (the joys of being the entertainment).

I think it was 2005 when the Monkey Bike gathering happened too...what an incredible amount of bikers flooded the island that weekend. Cool

Wotcha.

I know the monkey bikes started making a bigger appearance from about 2003 onwards, which all added to the atmosphere of the rally.
Sadly, 2005 was the year my mother died and I had to give the Gallybagger a miss, . . . . well I say Gallybagger . . . . 2005 was the year Stan got married and thus the first of the "Over the edge" rallies. That was the first year I missed since our club started doing the Gallybagger in 1987 ( I think that was the second GG rally ). We've had almost thirty members book in on the GG rally in the past, and this year I don't think anyone from our club has gone to either of the Isle of Wight rallies. Sad really.

The trio of guys in the colourful toggs, were they Moonshine members? I remember seeing them. I got an excellent shot of Stan & Jane when all the confetti came down myself.

Wotcha.

'Fraid not. The lass who took the piccies in 2005 is a member of the Toads and Dogends Rally Club . . .but I don't think they are members of that club either.
