Just shook hands on buying an E plate GPZ900R A3 . . .

It feels like Christmas has come early - and I've realised a 'boyhood' dream by owning one of these great machines!

If you see one of these just pottering about - it'll be me acclimatising . . .

Hi

Looks very clean, complete with Neta exhausts.

Should be a fairly tough long lived bike. Only problem they seemed to have was occasional cam problems (probably safe after this long) and the cam chain is not the longest lived item around. Nothing terminal at all.

All the best

Keith

Just a couple of hours to go! I'm bricking it too - never having ridden a bike this size before I don't want to look a knob as I pick it up from the seller.

@kickstart - the cam oil supply wasn't up to the job on earlier 'bikes - the later ones had larger bore oilfeeds fitted as standard and you can retro-fit a fixup to the earlier 'bikes - I haven't a clue what to look for yet, but the motor was 'quiet'. The tensioner also got an update later in its life too as it had a habit of sticking - something else I'll have to check later on.

The 900 also apparently has a penchant for overheating and many owners fit manual switches to bring the fan on - this one has one fitted, although at the time I tried it it didn't work haha. Kawasaki also had a problem with many of their bikes and 'carb icing' later models all had a coolant reroute round one of the fule pipes to try and combat this. My bike has had this retro fitted - Kawasaki were doing it for free if IIRC

wow this thing is miles more stable than i thought it would be - especially through the corners. Countersteering seemes to be the name of the game to get it to smoothly and quickly turn.
I've yet to get fully used to low speed work and maneouvring around car parks - after almost dropping it twice as its almost gone past the balance point of no return . . .scary stuff - the first near disaster ws in the work carpark returning from picking it up with a gaggle of expectant faces at the windows as they looked out on hearing the exhausts ripping away. um, yeah!

I nearly bought a GPZ500 for £500
I didn't what with not wanting a four stroke, and having no licence, and not liking it etc....

@aqualung
still a little lost for words - it really was a 'dream' bike - for something like the last 10-15 years... it's a silly thing but I can't really put it into words, yet.
Pickup was ok - I nearly toppled it, and having not ridden for those last 10+ years, found the front end initially very heavy and the brakes massively grabby - so you can imagine what the first 200 yards of junctions were like!
It had stood for a while, so I'm taking it easy to begin with - I'll give it a full service at the end of the first week to change all the 'old' fluids etc.

I consider myself really lucky - the more I see of the bike as I look it over/ clean it etc the more I realise this has been a very lucky find of an outstanding condition bike.

I'm currently parking it outside the front room window so I can sit and stare at it - going over the details of its lines, its colours . . . more so than I could with any picture or from 'grabbed' glances of other peoples motors parked up . . .

Smile

Don't worry about it, either people will know exactly what you mean, or all the explaining in the world won't get your point across, no matter how lucid you are they will still think you are odd for wanting an old knocker of a wannabe sportsbike (NOT my opinion I hasten to add, I love the older kwaks).
Glad to hear you are liking it so much, and if it's as well treated as you say then I suspect the previous owner would also be glad of this fact Wink

Thumbs Up
