I've decided to make a ground anchor. I'm going for an Almax chain & looking at anchors.
They all seem to need bolting to the floor or digging a hole to fill with cement.

Looking at the houses round here I'm guessing the drive is just a load of rubble with a thin layer or tarmac on top, probably not good to bolt too.

So I'm thinking of buying a giant plantpot and filling it with steel & cement with a decent hoop to put the chain through.
Is this a good idea or would it be too light or not secure?

Reason for using a plant pot rather than a wheely bin or anything is too look more presentable & thus keep the neighbours quiet.

What about half a whisky barrel? You could even stop the cement 6-8" short of the top, drill a ring of holes round for drainage and grow something in it.

EDIT: If you hammered some big bits of rebar through the bottom so they were stuck into the ground at an angle then concreted in on top of them, it'd be pretty much unmoveable.

I've also seen people bury a small butane gas cylinder full of cement with just the handle sticking out and chaining their bike to that.

anything containing about 0.3 cubic meters of cement should be pretty much unmovable. Cement density varies between 1.3 to 2 tons per meter^3 so that would make it 400 to around 700 kgr.
The container is up to your taste i guess Smile

I do like the whiskey barrel idea, will look pretty cool!

Concrete is even heavier still - average 2.3-2.5tonne/cubic meter.

A builders 'Gorilla Bucket' filled with a 1-2-4 mix, about 75slump(sloppy'ish).

Mooring ring optional.

In my opinion, in a country ravished by rice crispies, if they want it they'll have it, so i just chain it so it cant be wheeled giving they brake the steering lock which ive seen done in abuot half a blink

Chain it to an upside down half-barrel. Instead of concrete, fill the barrel with a hungry Staffie.

I'm thinking of using our lass as a ground anchor, immovable, inflexible, makes like a Rottweiler when pissed off.
Just have to balance a nice piece of her Jewellry or a pair of shoes on the tank to motivate her.

Depends on the chain. Someone cut mine but they had to use hydraulic cutting gear. I 100% garauntee nobody is getting through it with bolt croppers (people have tried and failed before) and they would take more than a few minutes with an angle grinder.

Shocked A whiskey barrel, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind.
Excellent suggestion! Thumbs Up
The prices looks alright on eBay too.

Thanks for all the info & help guys. I'll crack on with it next week Thumbs Up
As for no need their easy to cut replies, anything that's a visual opportunist deterrent & will slow down any professionals is worth it in my book.
