i have at the minute BKS quantum boots. Theyre good but they are also very hard. these almost zero padding and my feet have grown a bit. enough to make my toes touch places where it gets a bit uncomfy.

so anyway, today i tried on some Alpinestar SMX-5. my god. these are like putting my feet in clouds compared to the BKS ones. ive got to go back with the leathers on to see how they are for a fit around the bottoms etc.

just wondering if anyone has used these and what they thought or have any other suggestions on boots. these are £150 in the shop. similar price range but after feeling what sort of comfort is available i would pay a little more, but to be honest, these were already giving me a cheeky tickle so it would have to be worthwhile.

i looked at the waterproof ones. but i only use my bike in bike riding weather. or i try to at least.

i take it smx4 is the model before smx5?

ive also seen some sidi fusion and tcx competizione S. tcx are cheaper but have some good review, especially about comfort. Sidi, just because i know theyre a big, trusted name, as with alpinestars

I got me a set of these recently:

https://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ProductImages/300/2007_Gaerne_G-RW_Road_Race_Boot.jpg

Not had to test the waterproofing yet, but if you can find a UK stockist I recommend giving them a try for comfort Thumbs Up

Gaerne GRW's by the way.

nothing a bit of wd40 wont solve. My sidi vertebrae used to squeak like a bitch. And were ridiculously loud when walking in a deathly silent library. WD sorted it

My SMX4 WPs have survived 4 years worth of commuting and abuse before I replaced them, they are still wearable and waterproof, just scruffy, only thing I didn't like about them was the weak velcro cover for the zip, it doesn't fall off or anything, just doesn't stick down very well and looks tatty if you are walking about in them.

My current day to day boots are a pair of Daytona Roadstars that I luckily landed stupidly cheaply. Not remotely exciting to look at but they are comfy and in with a good chance of outlasting me Laughing

the only thing is, i tried one boot on and it had an uncomfortable lump in. tried another and it was fine. so i dont really want to buy a pair online to find they have something like that. because it wasnt a fault, it was just how it was.

Hmmm strange, I got mine online (fleabay) and had no issues. Distance selling regs mean you can send them back if theres a problem, and any reputable seller on fleabay would also refund the return postage costs.

Im also in the market for some boots. This will be my first pair. I know I should go to my LBS, but they have a limited manufacturer range. I tried some SIDI black eves and found them really really tight. RST Tractech WP are definitely a better fit ie wider fitting. What is the fit like in Alpinestars?
Thanks

I have the SMX-5 WP's. Been using them for a year, commuting through winter and pouring rain and on ride outs.

Can't fault them. They fit well, are comfortable enough to wear all day on and off the bike. Never let water in. Warm in the winter with a pair of thermo socks. Cool and airy in summer when at decent speeds. They also look pretty good and have held up very well, breaking in nicely yet retaining stiffness in the vital areas.

It's probably obvious, but the WP's are a little tighter than the normal SMX-5's.
