What is it about sports bike designers that make them incorporate daft storage spaces into the things?

There's a particularly silly one on my ZZR600. On the lefthand side just under the handlebar and next to the tank is a lockable (!) compartment of such a size and shape that nothing sensible fits in there. Ok, there's a 50p but that's just for scale in the picture...

Anybody else?

Hmm I wish the R6 had one of them!!

Means I can have a LOCKABLE sandwich compartment so the bastards at work can't thieve my sandwiches!!

p.s... in reality..

Looks like a tool kit compartment?

Just think how many 50p's would go in there, so obviously with all that money you need a lock on it!

The RF has a much more sensible compartment on the left hand side, can get disc lock, wallet, mp3 player, batteries and earplugs in that one. Thumbs Up

Hubby puts his phone and fags in there, fits quite nicely and very handy. Wish i had one, the storage on the VFR is so small!

There's a wee storage box under the left fairing of the NS125R, just the size to fit the wee tool-kit, but nothing else!!!

Pah, all you people moaning about storage have no creative imagination. I've had on the back of my ZX6R a minimoto, a collection of spare fairing, 4 spare wheels, four spare tyres, and lots of other minimoto bits. Have also had on (at a different time lol) lots of bags, a tent, a BBQ, and a nice range of other big things. Was fine with it until trying filtering on the M1 in the narrow road works bit. Laughing

So go get yourself a load of bungees and stop moaning. Razz Razz

Ste, you sound like just the man I need for tips on packing up the bike.

We're going to our first rally next week, is there any tips for packing stuff on the back of my bike, or just loads of bungees and that's it!

Loads of bungees is my normal tactic. Laughing

Normally use a tail bag and panniers fill them right up and then start attaching stuff to those. Make sure there is no way it can move around as it could slide down a bit and hit the tyre or chain and sprockets. Better to over attach the stuff than under attach it. Not really got much advice other than use lots of bungees and I also use those strap things that are used for car roof racks. Thumbs Up

Got a small tray under the pillion part of the seat and a deeper tray that I stuff my waterproofs in under my bum. Seriously considering a top box. Any recommendations?

I love my GSXR, it has loads of underseat storage, so much that I can fit a spare pair of knee sliders, a sidestand puck, a pack of fags and my textile jacket under there! Very Happy

I've got bugger all room under my seat. Can get my toolkit, wallet and phone under there and that's my lot.

Curious when it's generally considered the most 'sensible' out of the big 4 japanese sportsbikes - all the others have far more space for keeping stuff. I seem to recall Dusty finding a bunch of bananas he'd purchased several weeks previously in the R6's cubbyhole. Sick

The R1 has an amazing amount of storage space for what it is. When I rode up to cadwell I manged to pack:

- Yamaha Toolkit
- Alarm
- Knee sliders
- Disc lock
- Visor cleaner spray
- Tea towel
- 2 spark plugs
- Assorted cable ties
- Roll of electrical tape
- Waterproof overtrousers

Sick Sick Sick Sick That's very wrong. Laughing

Generally if I'm needing to carry anything much more than wallet, keys and phone I just use a rucksack and chuck it all in that, much less hassle which is good, and it means you're less likely to buy some bananas and forget about them for a few weeks. Laughing

R6 storage is pathetic... in fact it's less than pathetic.. I can't even fit a DVD under there... wrong size/shape Rolling Eyes

I can literally just about squeeze my roll up waterproof jacket under there but that rolls up to the size of a can of coke or something!!

That's why I always have a tank bag/back pack!

Rucksacks are okay but I'm not keen on carrying hard things in them really - too much rib/spine breakage potential when you land on it. I do it sometimes, but a big underseat space would be nice for oddly-shaped hard things like my camera that I want to take with me fairly frequently.

That one was solved by my little hard case I strap to the rear seat, but you get the point.

The 'nanas were in a plastic bag too. Sweaty. Sick

to make bike storage less annoying, get a single seat unit and remove it completely, then its less frutrating than having a stupidly small space Thumbs Up
