I've been rebuilding this little bike on and off as time allows and it's really coming together now but having rebuilt the front end there's something that concerns me, there seems to be a tiny gap between the block on the fork tube and the brake hub where it slots in so if the front brake is pulled hard there is a small clunk as the hub turns against it.

Is this a major issue...would it fail an mot for it and if so what suggestions are there to sort it?

There has to be a small gap or the stanchion wouldn't be able to slot into the brake plate. Packing a bit of grease in there should lessen or stop the clunk. No bother for an MOT, even clunking it would pass fine.
