Hi,
Im thinking, as i hope to obtain my full license by september time (hopfully), as i don't want to pay out of my arse to change the bike on my insurance policy, so im most likely going to wait until the renewal in january to move onto a 33bhp restricted bike.
so i was wondering, how much would i gain and loose from de-restricting my moped, an MBK nitro 50.
im not definately planning on doing so, but how would this affect the moped, and its reliability?
at the moment, it tops out at about 40mph, so i couldnt realy expect much more out of it.
and comments/ideas?
thanks
and P.S...im not a ped-boi twat who just wants to go faster than his mates to get all the gash ____________________ MBK Nitro 50, Sold. Kawasaki ER-5, Honda ST1100

If it does 40, then its already de-restricted. ____________________ Former: Derbi GP1 50, Sachs XTC 125, Suzuki GSXR 400 GK73A, Kawasaki ZX7R, Suzuki DR250, Yamaha RD350

Dont forget clutch springs and Up-jetting!
Also, I get the feeling he doesn't want to devalue it too much which this will probably do. It may also adversely affect reliability.
Technically, the moped is already illegal. In order to ride a derestricted moped at 17 you would need to inform the DVLA of the change from Moped to Motorcycle and present the vehicle to a VOSA testing station for examination. You would also have to inform your insurance company of this.
By fitting a 'racing' exhaust, you would also have to retain its E-Marked status, which would mean NOT derestricting it (All Road legal exhausts are required to carry the european stamp of approval or 'E' mark which means they have to remain in the state that they were tested which would be restricted to enable to moped to remain at below 3BHP and 30MPH) as soon as you derestrict the exhaust it would make it non-road legal and it would probably fail a VOSA inspection.
After doing all of this, you probably wouldn't be able to sell it on to anybody as a 16 year old could no longer ride it and everyone over 17 wants a 125.
Stick at 40 until you can afford to get a bigger bike.

yeah...i thought pissing around with rollers and re-jetting might fuck up the reliability.
i need it for college every week day, so i would prefer not to be pushing it too often:')
and my mechanical knowledge is prety much null, so i would most probably have to get my local garage to do any changes, which i may as well keep the money for a bigger bike.
ive waited many years to get a bike..so im sure i can wait another 4 months after my test
and at least ill already be 4 months into my restricted license ____________________ MBK Nitro 50, Sold. Kawasaki ER-5, Honda ST1100
