I have a CG125, on the documentation it is a 2001, it has a 51 plate, but it says CG W on the whatsit number on the frame.
and i believe CG W is 2000?, it was imported from ireland, so maybe that's why it says it's a 51, because it was imported in 2001?.
Anyway, what size battery does a 2000 model use?
Edit:
I'm no pro, and i don't know how the reg works, but it is "WM51" Would that be a W plate or a 51 plate?, W plate would make sence |

Bikes made in Japan, China, Korea, Brazil, wherever.
They come off the production line, sit in the wharehouse for however long, until they get stuck in a container & shipped half way around teh world, to wherever they are going to. Then they sit in their crate on the dock for however long, until the customs paperwork clears. Then they go to the importers warehouse, these days often in Continental Europe. Then the Dealers put in thier quarterly order, and they get shipped to UK distribution centre, then to the dealers.... they MIGHT then get registered straight away, for a buyer who has pre ordered... or they can sit in teh show room for however long it takes them to be sold.
It's quite COMMOM for bikes to be a year or more older than thier registration.
The Honda VF1000R is a good example. That bike was built in 1984, as a homologation special for Super Bike Racing, so they had to make the qualifying quantity for a 'production bike' in one manufacturing year..... However, in 1985, they changed the Super Bike regs and imposed a 750cc capacity limit.... Hence the bike was left 'Redundant', and few sold, and dealers were still dribbling them out the show rooms as late as 1990, six years later.
I have a gagle of Honda CB125 Super Dreams that suffered similarly, ones that Snowie & I have just restored are TD-C models, which were manufactured between 1982 & 1984, but both are 1986 registrations....
Honda UK effed up in 1982, presuming the 125 Super Dream would sell in teh same numbers as the 250 Super Dream, after the 125 Learner Laws were introduced, hence over ordered horrendously.
Bike sales fell by a 1/3 over night, and the CB125 was far from as popular as the 250.... hence they had shed loads of them in the show room, two years after the model was updated! 85 Model is the TD-E, but you wont find one in this country on anything earlier than D-Plate from 1987!
There's a 1980 Yamaha XT500 on e-bay at the moment, 'brand new' still in the crate. Its a collectors bike, and will probably remain that way, but if you were to buy it, to use, you could legitimately register that bike this year on a 65 plate, because even though its thirty one years old, its 'brand new'
Lesson is, to always order parts by frame number is you can, rather than by the registration year.

The 10th digit of the VIN "clears it up", but that would take all of thirty seconds to check, so I can understand why you wouldn't bother.

Roger!
First that only works if the bike is post 1992 and follows the ISO VIN standard.
Second it only works if the bike has remained 'standard' its entire life.
My DT is not serialised to the ISO standard.
The Frame wears the VIN awarded to the vehicle as first registered, a 1985 Twin Shock model.
Re chassised pre 1997 SVA rules, with a monoshock frame, and stamped with the earlier T-Shock numbers....
Convenuiently, that matches the engine that was in it, so if you used it to order a set of points, they would fit.... but if you used it to order a seat cover, it wouldn't....
There is no substitute for actually knoiwing the oragin of the bits ion the vehicle, and on CG's, VERY worth while getting to know the ins and outs.
They often get engines from older or newer bikes, sometimes not even Hondas.....

Hows he to know the obscurities of the VIN system, and how to decode them!
Buy a bike that has a big number plate on the back that says 03, you PRESUME its a 2003 model, dont you?
Get teh log book, and it says 'first registered 2003' sort of confirms it, not until you have to question it becouse something else doesn't match up you'll learn the anomolies, where this kind of specialist knowledge becomes useful!
