Before I put it on ebay can anyone tell me if it's actually any good.
Does it have a decent GPS I could stick on and then put through a blue tooth headphone? I'm more of a map person, but maybe this unit could have its uses?
Strikes me as quite a big block of hardware. |
its a cracking bit of kit, i too got one for free and used it t'other day to get me down to peterbourgh and back ____________________ Past Rides: Sym Jet Euro X, Gilera DNA, Aprillia RS125 (Spains No1 Replica), 1991 Honda NSF, 2006 Honda CG125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, 2000 VFR800 FY-I

Google Maps should be included which now does Sat Nav too. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

most mobiles have gps and agps built in, such as the sony ericsson x8 and its only 3", £30 on ebay ......
The galaxy tab is a little bit big, i.e around 9" and is running android same as the x8 but is probably a bit better.
Using a mobile/tablet as a satnav will burn your data allowance unless u pre-download the maps but dunno if the voice directions work, maybe someone else can shed some light on that.
Either way dont be lured by the shiny shiny tablet/ipad balls, do a little research and you can get what u need for a fraction of the price (maybe an old satnav even)
Tablets are pointless and a waste of cash, they are okay at most stuff but there is always a cheaper, better alternative to get what u want

Some great pointers there but I already got it for free! I don't only want to use it for GPS there are times in town or elsewhere when I'd like to have decent internet on my phone, I have an unlimited connection contract but my current phone is so slow browsing that I only use it for emergencies or urgent things.
The Galaxy tab can obviously do all these functions and I would definetely be keeping it if it wasn't so massive!
Out of interest can you tether a Galaxy tab to a computer? And then run the tabs internet connection to the computer?
You mention the X8 (is that the Sony, not great spec for that one, unless I'm wrong?) is there anything like a Galaxy Tab with the same spec but smaller I can exchange it for? Thanks |

First off, a Galaxy tab isn't a phone, it's a competitor to an I-Pad, but more portable being that bit smaller. You can use it to phone but as you say, you'd look a tit
I use one as an alternative to a net book when I'm on my travels as it's easier to carry however lets be honest here, the only advantage over a 'phone sized' unit is the screen size, ok for games, ebooks and such on an aeroplane but not a lot else.
I have a use for mine, doing a shit load of travelling, but as was said earlier, in most cases they are a gimmick. They don't do any more than a smart phone and do a lot less than a laptop.
I honestly believe Apple have done the killing of all killings with the I-Pad, making people think they need one when they are really just a gimmick, and the Galaxy Tab is Samsungs version of this.
You would do better selling it and buying an HTC desire or the equivalent smart phone.
In answer to your questions - Yes you can tether it to a computer and transfer documents etc. It is easy to to do. There is a microsoft office compatible free programme so you can work with documents on the move, but using the on screen key pad isn't good for speed typing. The equivalent phone sized unit would be (I'm guessing here incase anyone knows better) the Samsung Galaxy S ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

they have done this with several products or keep drip feeding new products and all the Apple drones out there keep lapping them up...
Seen one presentation, where Jobs was taking the piss out of net books... but they are called 'NET' books for a reason..
Ipad is a joke... Ipods are obsolete if you got an anyway half decent phone .. are they still making them ?
Most people over 50 with an Iphone don't even know what an app is |
My sentiments exactly, especially when it comes to Jobs Apple.
Mac is the biggest con and fad in the computer world to date.
Yes Windows Vista was a disaster the only reason Mac had any chance, and Windows 7 is not that great. But anyone who knows about computers will tell you it's Windows XP Pro 64-bit you want to be running, it is the lightest, fastest, most compatible (upward and downwards) and most flexible OS to date + it's at least 5 years old, it will out run and outmod anything Mac (and Microsoft) is able to pull out to date.
I've used several of the latest Macbooks and Mac desktops for around a year, what a load of crap, limited and noob proof systems for families. If you want to have floating pictures + other limiting bullshit hardwired into your OS get a Mac.
Tired of people telling me oh Mac is better because of this and that, only to prove them wrong. Last person told Mac has a force quit function that Windows doesn't and MAC never crashes . Until I showed exactly how I can select exactly which program I want to shut down and instantly close it on XP Pro, this you cannot do on Mac you have to wait for the program to do it the way it wants (the Mac crashed when we tested it, and XP Pro handled the error perfectly ).
Tired of Apple, its Macs and it's bullshit yuppie products, get XP Pro learn how to use it, mod it and have the most powerful OS tool available on the market today + if you want the bullshit programs they put on Mac computers XP Pro will run it without having to run a cross over or other bullshit Mac have.
Put simply:
If Mac was that great there would be a crossover program supplied with Windows for MAC, there isn't. There is a inbuilt MAC crossover program for Windows. Which to me only means MAC is so shit & incompatible it needs a Windows package to come with it.
