I've decided that Honda need to be represented at Moped Mayhem, so called in on a bet I won (or possibly lost, I'm not really sure) and picked up a H reg Honda SH50 City Express Thumbs Up

It's currently distributed into 2 Halfords stacka boxes and a chassis, I'll be doing it up to be road worthy, by making the rare and fabled 'Superleggera' Edition, which is also great for (go-kart) track use Laughing

Pics later when it's light and I can take a couple of good pics Thumbs Up

And there I was, thinking I was being optimistic with my project bike.

This makes me feel slightly sane Laughing

cheers guys,

it's not optimistic lol it's all there bar the seat (got thrown out by my mates dad for some reason, what a nob in a box Rolling Eyes )

Gaz, it was your thread that inspired the whole thing really, we were talking about it and decided there and then to do it, lime green frame and black bodywork I think Smile

How would one go about entering such a vehicle into a race? I want to do some form of endurance race really. It'll be mostly road legal, lights etc Discussing it earlier, technically I think it has USD forks as standard!

Will it be ready for the 18th of June? I was planning on entering an 8 hour one on that day but I don't think I will be now.

can't see why not, I need a top end gasket set as I checked the piston, bore, conrod bearings etc, so would rather use new for the sake of £10 rather than try and use old gaskets.

I'm expecting it to be the slowest thing there, topping out at 28mph , but it'll do it everywhere, even up a sheer cliff face!

Right, cracked on with it today with some help from a mate (who has now had 3 of these, and kept telling me what went where, even AS I was doing it Laughing

It's literally just the engine, speedo and bodywork to go on now I think, I'm now at the stage where I'm thinking about painting it, I think it would look fantastic in glow in the dark paint tbh, but not too sure how legal it is Mr. Green

Just ordered a gasket set, so that brings the total build spend so far up to a WHOPPING....

£10!

Expecting about another £20-35 as I still have to buy a throttle cable and battery at least, and possibly headstock bearings (going to try greasing and tightening first, just incase I can get away with it)

no worries mate, a new one is about £13, and a battery is only £20, in terms of the total cost it's a bargain to put it on the road/track for under £100

I'm going to hopefully make the 8hr endurance, we'll have to make a proper arrangements for something mate Thumbs Up I think it's great, being on the slowest thing will be a laugh, especially as I'll be in full race leathers and bright red race boots Laughing

I should take delivery of the gasket set tomorrow, which means that after an hours work cleaning it up I'll have the engine back in one piece, ready to go in, then it's onto the bodywork Thumbs Up

Is there really no way to derestrict the bike to do more than 28? It's a 2 stroke isn't it? Also...you don't need a battery! Save weight and bump start it like a man! Laughing

Bump starting something without gears is easier said than done. Saying that, most come with a kick start aswell.

it's got a kickstart, and the battery only really helps power the lights, so will likely do without it until I come to MOT it Thumbs Up so another £15 on a throttle cable it is, should be running and riding by then Mr. Green

Oh I thought it was supposed to be a track ped with no lights and minimal weight...

I think we're all building to the regs run at Wittering, which is capacity limits of 50cc for 2Ts, 90cc for 4Ts, no manual clutches, working brakes at both ends and no minimotos/pitbikes.

Other than that, anything goes.

Not sure about dates, but there seems to be something going on on June 18th, which I hope isn't Wittering because I definitely can't make that weekend.

in the beginning it was going to be, but then I thought it would be funnier to have a fully daytime road legal bike with some kind of race rep paint job or something Mr. Green definately having some number stuck to it at any rate

Fair enough. Saves you the trouble of getting it to the event on a trailer/in a van I suppose. I do envy your bike collection...waiting eagerly to get my RXS back from my friend and rebuild it. Then I want a project IL4...probably a 600.

probably still going to trailer it there (would take hours at 28!) but it's the comedy effect of a full road bike going round against a load of race 'peds and being lapped Laughing

Cheers for the compliment, it's more of a scrap yard than collection though Wink
