Hi,

opinions please.....

i am toying with the idea of getting a fly screen for my XJ6n but i am torn between the original Yamaha one or this:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-XJ6-Screen-Biondi-/130490011576?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item1e61cf8fb8

Obviously the Yamaha one is more expensive!

What should I do?

If you want one to look good, go for the one that you think looks best.

If you want something that actually keeps the wind off of you rather than just diverting it right up into your helmet, then what I'd suggest is eBay £5 worth of 50cm x 50cm x 3mm perspex, and spend a happy couple of hours with a hacksaw, file, drill and hot air gun to create a custom screen the exact size, shape and colour that you want. It's straight forward and rewarding, it just takes some patience and experimentation.

like it - unfortunately I'm not very practical so making my own will only be a waste of materials!

Have you had it up to speed yet? Does it do the job?

I need some sort of screen for the SFV, as it feels like I'm being yanked off (not the good kind) at anything over 70mph.

Well, I made it to work and the screen is still there

A noticable difference in air pushing on my chest until I got up to three figures then it was just pushing my head. If I duck down a bit its ok!

Recommend it for long journeys as it will reduce tiredness I hope

Souds a lot better than sheer nakedness. I shall have to invest.

Cheers

I appreciate this is an old thread, but as it's all still relevant I didn't think it was worth making a new one.

I have the Yamaha screen on my XJ6N but find the motorways quite brutal with the buffering on my head.

I can't seem to find a bigger screen for it though. The Puig one is only 2.5cm bigger than my Yamaha one and there's some reviews on Amazon which suggest you still get hammered on the motorways. It's annoying as the Puig one for an MT-07 is much bigger than the xj6n version.

Has anyone found anything taller?

I've got a Puig on mine... buffeting is fine up to 70mph, anywhere above can be a bit tough... although I've found earplugs make the most difference (quiet buffeting < loud buffeting). Also getting an aerodynamic and well fitting helmet helps too (out of the 2 helmets I've worn on motorways my HJC IS-17 is a big improvement).

x2. Although mine came with the Puig fitted so no idea what it is like without. I have a Shark S700s helmet which doesn't have a chin curtain so notice the wind quite a bit, got one on order which should improve things once it arrives. Good to see some fellow XJ6 riders, the dedicated site is a little quiet.

Not sure whether to gamble on a Puig one and hope it's better than my Yamaha one, or go for the universal fitting Puig Touring II which is about as big as anything I'll ever find, but will probably look too goofy as a permanent screen.

You're right about it being quiet on the Yamaha forum so it's good there's owners on here!
