Hi, yet more trouble for my bike haha
okay, so heres the story
coming home from school this afternoon, speedo was working fine. i stopped to check my tyre pressure at the local garage, then set off again. i got 500m, looked to check my speed, and i wasnt moving. i tried tapping it, shaking it, and all the on the go things to make the bugger work, but it wasnt having any of it. i have now taken it apart and looked at the problem. basically, the speedo cable looks fine and seems to work fine, but doesnt spin when the wheel spins. ive taken the cable off at the bottom, and the pin in the bottom doesnt spin either.
so what i'm asking is, is there any way anybody knows of taking it apart and fixing it, without having to spend 100 big ones on a new one?
I would be very very VERY grateful if somebody could shed some light on the situation as i am quite skint, and don't want to pay for something i can botch together or do without.
Thanks Smile Peter

Inside the speedo drive is a nylon gear. These wear and no longer turn the metal worm drive that turns the cable.

It's sometime possible to lift out the nylon gear and use a washer to pack it out so that an unworn bit of gear acts on the metal worm gear. Only a short term solution though.

I think Dave Silver sell only the nylon bit for some Hondas, still expensive but a fraction of the cost of a complete speedo drive.
