I have done 100 miles on my bike so far , I know that's not much but I'm still struggling turning right. Left - smooth as babys bottom . Right - as rough as a badgers arse. It's actually starting to annoy me now. Anyone else ever suffered from this or am I just an odd piece!???? Any pointers welcome

What are you finding difficult about it? Where is the rough bit? Break it down into movements and try and pinpoint the bit you're struggling with. Without more info I don't know how we could be of much help sorry Smile

Lean forward and bend your elbows. Grip the bike with your thighs.

Not leaning enough for some reason I try and fail and usually head towards the kerb, put my foot down on floor then straighten up and whizz off!

Find a quiet carpark and practice pulling away to the right whilst controlling the bike's speed with the back brake. Sounds like you feel the bike is getting away from you.

Only you can answer that. Personally, I prefer right bends to left. If your bike is straight and you don't sit on one cheek of your backside (a lot of people do) there should be none.

Laughing Its actually VERY VERY common!
When I did my part 1, (ancient predecessor to CBT), a lad there had ridden from Bar Beacon all the way to Small Heath, accross the middle of Brum, in his Honda 125 Spacey Scooter (Like the one Sarah Conner rides at the beginning of the first Terminator!) only turning 'left'! And apparently did it every week, before he was told he'd failed the Pt1 test! He could NOT do right hand turns, so he would ride past his turning and do three lefts round the block to turn right!
Anyway 100m isn't much, and experience and practice will help it get batter.
Still haven't heard from you apres popping over BTW?
But weather has been a bit 'mixed'!
Got kids beginning of the week, as it's 1/2 term.
Thursday Friday is pencilled in for last minute prep as Snowi Has her CBT on Saturday....
Sunday (presuming she passes!) a ride-out is intended to her parents...
But she has rider training every monday, then for two months, to test, and between lessons, we are working on her having at least 2hrs practice every day, so plenty of riding!
I haven't instructed for five years, so I'm a little rusty, but Meriden Road is going to be one of the main 'haunts' for country roads, and learning technique on corners, so Knowle, Sholihul, will probably be where I get her facing 'unfamiliar' road layouts and stuff...
If you fancy joining us?
Do you have a PMR radio?
Trying to wire us up at the minute, so I can sewar at her on the move! Wink

Try writing with your left and write hand Smile

I had the same problem. Took me about 2 months worth of practice and 2-3 000 miles. You'll be fine.

I would worry if after a few months of regular riding you're still not used to it.

Some people do have a preference with turning so you aren't the only person if that makes you feel any better! Remember to keep your head up and look where you want to go, definately try and get to a quiet carpark somewhere to practice. Try and get someone to film you if possible so you can actually see what you do when turning left/right.

You'll get it Thumbs Up

Sounds like a simple case of "target fixation" and should be easily solved.

It's more common with U-turns, with the rider always heading for the kerb.

Do some searches on here, or a search engine, to learn more about it or maybe some You Tube vids?

Also practice slowing right down and being stationery without putting your feet down, then setting off again. The skill at slow speeds is where the maximum control needs to be. Once you've mastered crawling along and not wobbling too much or putting your feet down, then head off and practice your right turns.

When you are turning, do not look down toward the kerb, or that's where you'll end up, look further up the road where you intend on riding, then like others have said, grip with your knees and ride through the corner.

Little bit of practice and you should be fine.

Don't think that once you're through the CBT you've stopped learning... you will learn and learn and learn again. Even when you've been riding for many years, you can still learn new things. Thumbs Up

I haven't a radio but shouldn't need one I'll just follow behind lol and miss out the banter. Yes the weather has been mixed up and I'm still a big fanny on the road at the minute lol. But softly softly catchy monkey, if I had done it when I was 17 I would of been reckless but learnt quicker lol but hey ho!

If you give him your radio dear, we are likely to end up riding down a one way street into a canal! Or following a Number 48 Bus to Kenilworth!

Reason I want radio's is so I can shout at you, "NO, the OTHER 'Left'... that's RIGHT!" or..... "OK, so you INDICATED the way we need to go.... now why did you turn the OTHER way?" and ask you where you plan taking us!

100 miles is naff all. It's not even a whole trip for some people, far too early to be worrying about not being able to ride properly.

Practice slow turns in a car park maybe, go round and round a and round in tight right hand circles, a few times, stop and do it again, and a do a mental inventory, am I relaxed, are my arms straight or bent how am I using the throttle etc etc

Belive me when you've clocked up your first 1000 miles you'll look back and laugh at the problems you had at 100 miles.

I thought I'd throw this in since I have slightly the same problem, I feel a lot more comfortable turning left than I do turning right, I think it's just us to be honest, I was always the same when I was riding my push bike, pulling skids as a kid I would always turn left as I felt really dodgy turning right, which is odd cos i'm right handed lol

i dunno if you might be the same or not i think it's just something subconscious, keep at it, practice it at slow speeds, stay alert and try and assess what you're doing to find improvement. worked for me Smile
