My bike won't start without throttle or without holding starter button for ages. Is this normal or need to replace something e.g. spark plug?

I need to give my bandit a little throttle and choke to get it started, once it is running it is ok.

What bike is it and has it always needed a little throttle?

Insufficient data for meaningful answer.

Does the bike idle OK once it's started? If not, I'd suggest a blocked idle jet.

It never hurts to clean and check the gap on the the plug(s) and clean the air filter, but we really need more information on your bike, it's condition, and service history.

Mine takes a few seconds longer on the starter to fire up then the revs slowly rise to the idle. If I just use a tiny bit of throttle, the bike fires into life immediately off the starter

Sounds like a worn powerband to me.

I'll first try to start with just the electric starter and all I hear is the starter motor and the engine trying to start. Then I'll use a bit of throttle and it'll start, but sometimes the engine does not tick over properly and just cuts out. When the bike is warmed up, the bike starts no trouble with just the electric starter.

Not sure, only bought the bike a month ago, how often should it be serviced?

It depends on the bike.

Check the spark plug.
