Hi there i have been offered a 2002 Cagiva Mito for £800 .
The guy reckons that the small bottom bearing has started to wear.
Is this a big job and is it going to cost big bucks?.
Should i avoid?. Question

Rings every 5K.
Top end every 10K.
Bottom end needs work every 20K - which means as does the rings and top end as that's their intervals too. Basically, this is the massive full engine rebuild job! (not just top end..)

Apparently the bottom end of these bikes is an absolute bitch to do as there are so many bearings, and they all fall out when you take it apart.

I wouldn't buy the bike (especially @ £800) unless i knew what i was doing, and as you had to ask...

I was going to pay to have the bike done but i can see a fairly hefty bill ahead so i think i will avoid.

fair bit of work involved.....
but the bearings themselves arent dear & theres a few detailed "how to's" available on-line.
recently completed a bottom end re-build on a mito & tbh, the hardest bit was getting the engine in & out of the frame!
800 quid? sounds about right for needing this done. 1300 once done.

Probably somewhere in the region of £300... could be a lot more depending what parts need replacing, how good the person is doing the build and various other factors.

last full rebuild I heard for an RS which is similar was 500 quid! ouch!

my local place (only official aprilia place for miles) charges over 600 quid, thats using budget parts.
& thats not a FULL rebuild btw, just TOP END!!!!! (mitaka cylinder kit)
so i imagine it would be most of a days labour? 6 hours at 45 quid an hr.... with you handing them the engine,lol.

Mito forums (125 sportsbike forum) say not to use the Mitaka piston (it's the cheapest for a reason i'd assume). So bend over for an extra £50 for Vertex or more for something else.

£600 for a top end! For lols i think you should ask them how much for a full top and bottom end rebuild Laughing

actually the mitaka pistons themselves are fine. its the rings that of dubious quality, but some places now supply them with rikken (sp) rings nowadays. (think pjme does this)
big difference in price between mitaka & prox/vertex etc.
i would go for the best you can afford. i'd hate to think what my local aprilia place would charge for a FULL re-build (new cylinder,piston,mains etc).
i think they only do it for warranty work, due to the price. i know they wont touch bikes (2t's) more than 5 yrs old.

being the only aprilia place (as well as being a dealer for suzuki & a couple of other brands) for miles, i think they can afford to.

I'm really really really hoping that my old mito doesn't crop up on here....

The guy that bought it was about to go on holiday for 2 months, 2 months ago, so about now should be seriously regretting buying it. (I killed her. Sad )

And as above, unless you know what you're doing/ have enough money, don't bother buying it, it's gonna take a fair amount of your hard earned £££. Thumbs Up
