For whatever reason


Suzuki - had a few bad experiences and have worked on enough to know I would never want to own another.

Scorpion - Bought a set of Cans from them, they weren't cheap and I felt the built Quality was pretty poor considering the price. They also took ages to arrive about 3 times longer than they said IIRC.

Frank Thomas - The few bits I have had or have seen have been pretty low quality tend to avoid.

Oxford; Almost everything they sell is shite.
[edit] Motrax are pretty much the same

Wouldn't touch another triumph after the problems with my 885.

Tip...

Remove ANY bolts, grease before going back in.

No problems at all then.

What happened with the 885? I personally love Triumph bikes, my dad and I have done about 30k miles between us on Hinckley Triumphs and neither of us have had a single problem (barring things I have caused!) AFAIK

Actually that isn't correct my Speedo Drive broke, but not bad considering.

Oxford are OK being fair (this goes for some of the things listed by Tatters too) They are pretty cheap. You can't expect Alpine Star quality for Akito Money.

I’ve seen the condition of a Suzuki Bandit and a Honda Hornet of the same age, the Honda undoubtedly comes top. I think a lot of it comes down to how much care has gone into the bike, I’ve yet to own a bike myself that I’ve had the problems you’ve mentioned and I’ve owned bikes from each Jap manufacture.

I had a Bandit 650 07 plate hire bike (this was in 2007) I also had a CBF600 (52 plate) Hire bike. The Honda looked in better nick, it was also nicer to ride had a better abs system and drank less fuel.

as an example i have just stripped a gsxr750 now i can say with 90% confidence the rear subframe has never been removed in its life but can i get it off no chance had to drill it
30 year old cb900 i stripped a few months back rusty as hell but every single bolt undid fine with no issues

Ducati aren't really over priced,

The bog Standard Monster is only £1k more than the Gladius or the ER6N, all similar bikes but the Duc looks a lot better.

The 1198 is only £700 more than the ZX10R and I would rather the 1198 than the ZX10 by far.

With Arai, I think you do pay a premium but you do get a much better lid. My Arai is the best lid I have ever had, It has lasted Twice as long as my old AGV TiTech, and is far Superior. The Vents actually work and work well, it has replaceable parts so you don;t have to throw the lid out if the visor mechanism is buggered.

Same with A*, I have only ever owned 2 pieces of Alpine Star gear. My SMX4's and a Pair of summer gloves.

First of the boots are probably the best piece of bike gear I have ever bought. £130 I got them 4 years ago I believe. They are still 100% waterproof, I have used them so much I had to get the soles replaced. I have crashed in them and wear them every day through winter. Amazing piece of kit.

I also have a pair of Gloves SMX2's They cost me £50, they are really lightweight summer gloves and I have been impressed with them so far.

Personally I get the feeling you haven't actually tried any of these things you are slagging off.

I don't by 'cheap' gear anymore because it is false economy, I ride all year round and all my Winter kit (barring my Trousers) is 3-4 years old and all of it is 100% water proof. Any of the cheap gear I have bought is lucky to last a few months before letting water in. Don't think I always spend fortunes either my 2 favourite Jackets one cost £55 the other £35.

In my experience I haven't found anything noticeably Cheaper than Alpinestars or Arai that is equal or better, as for Ducati, they look the tits, far superior than the jap rivals and I bet that the Monster is of a much higher build quality than the Gladius or SV. Another thing to take into account is that Ducati's hold there value a lot more than Japs bikes.

The only way I would be classed a brand whore is because if I have bought good kit I would always look to that brand again as my first port of call. All my textile kit is Triumph branded which is odd as I never wear it on my Triumph only my Yamaha as the Trumpet will never see rain again! The reason for this being 4 years ago I picked up a Triumph Textile Jacket for £55, I still wear it today I can't fault it is really warm and 100% waterproof. I bought Triumph Trousers too because I assumed they would be as good as the Jacket (They are)

Why would you say a Ducati is much better than the ZX 10 R though? I assume the new one with the claimed 180 BHP or whatever and ABS.

It certainly looks better, without riding I couldn't say. But the Duc is 170bhp and probably has more torque.
