I have two big chains two big padlocks, disc lock and the bandit has a datatool alarm fitted.
I still had local scroats attempt to steal it. They soon buggered off when the alarm sounded.
Pic of the anchor point, chain and padlock.

I havnt got a bike yet, but my house is a terraced layout and I would only be able to put the bike outside the front of the house. The carpark along the row of houses is 15 odd foot away from the front of the house, and the pathway going past the house is much nearer then that!
So apart from every chain and lock I can afford when I do buy the bike, I will also be buying a CCTV system that I also view away from home like at work etc. The idea being I will see them as soon as they look at the bike (hopefully!). They do some good kits on ebay!
They also do motorbike covers in the pound shop as well to cover it up, I sometimes use these to cover bits in the garden for when it rains |

I own a terraced house, I smashed half the wall down with a sledge hammer, put two ground anchors in the cemented area I made, lock both bikes together, and each one individually to the ground, and have a 350watt security lights, and both covered.
no neighbour has ever complained, as to be honest, they'd rather have the carparking space than my bikes in the road, people have stolen my bikes before, they haven't been stolen since, though covers have been ripped, and they have had a go. Anything to slow them down, the spot light on them usually makes them move away. |

yeah, if you are going down the insurance discount route, read all the small print very, very, very carefully, about exactly how they expect your bike to be secured, and be sure that the equipment that you use, matches their expectations.
Personally, though I lock my bike up in my front garden, I always say it's parked in the road at night, cos I don't want to argue the toss with a loss adjuster about the quality of my security chains, or why 20 minutes after I arrived home, I hadn't fully put my bike away, or why I was in a Travelodge car park etc etc |
