Does anyone know what the penalty is if you are pulled over on the motorway without your 'L' Plates on?
Hypothetically speaking, obviously!!! ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

So if you really, really, really have to go on the motorway, leave your L plates on ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

In that case, does anyone know any online maps that give you the option to select a route that does not use the motorway? ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

On the A739 head towards junction 25 of the M8, but just before it at Govan, you'll hit the junction with the A8. This runs alongside the M8 up to where it terminates at junction 31 at Greenock. Then you can just stay on the A8, and at Govan turn off onto the A78 to Wemyss Bay. 30 miles total trip.
[edit] The AA route planner below is much better than my Autoroute ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

AA Route Planner also has a good route planning system, you type in your postcode and your destination, including via's if appropriate and it has the options to 'Avoid Motorways', go on 'Caravan Routes' or 'Avoid toll roads and congestion charges'. It also has an option of a map showing your route.
I use it all the time and find it very useful for planning a ride from known a-b as it has landmarks for directions, not just road names (A530 etc.) and it often uses pubs as these landmarks so you know where you can stop off for a drink too. ____________________ My Bike pics - https://www.bikepics.com/members/cagivamito2001

Thanks peeps, very helpful!
I'll definitley be using the A8 rather than going on the motorway then!! Not worth getting banned for!! The only reason I was considering it was we're going with some other people and they're taking the motorway route, but I guess we'll just meet them there now!! ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

The ride's as important as the destination - get them to go with you on the A8. It's only a 20 mile stretch ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

It would be 3 points and a fine per L plate not being displayed and you'd be done for riding outside the restrictions of your license so it's ban time. Do know someone who was broken down on the motorway whilst on CBT and the police helped him move the bike to the hard shoulder (was in M4 bus lane!) and they never even asked for any of the paperwork even though it was a 125 bike. He was wearing full leathers so probably came across better than someone in jeans and trainers would do.
Best bet if you need to use motorways is to do your test. |
