Same as before, but in a different order, and you can get away with 2mph less on the emergency stop and hazard avoidance (although I believe you'll get a minor if you do 48 or 49 kph).

HTH Thumbs Up

Just stay relaxed. Remember your obs and listen to the examiner. He'll explain what he wants you to do and if you dont understand then ask him to repeat it.

You'll be fine.

And don't forget he may not mention your speed for that test run, but if you want too you can ask him what it was (I did). This gives you an idea if you were about right, need to do way better, or can ease off.

I had no trouble making the speeds, I suspect the people who do are probably mostly taking the bend too slow and then struggling to accelerate. I went around the bends at about 20mph, pin it in second gear (on a 125) as you're exitting and you should be at speed by the cones. I think on a 500 you may be advised to take largely the same approach but shift up to third. A quick search around would answer that.

Don't sweat it about the swerve test, I was bricking it about that as I'd had trouble finding anywhere to practice it safely, but it's actually hardly worthy of the name "swerve". If you have reasonable bike control you'll be fine on it.

The following video was what I watched repeatedly in the run up, that plus a bit of practice at slow-speed stuff in a car park helped me get my no-minors pass Smile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYOUWHrqDJg

Crib notes: the content is much the same, but the course and the order is more sensibly organised, with fewer opportunities to fail on pointless technicalities.

You'll be given very clear instructions on the day. Ask if you're in any doubt.

That video is very helpful - thanks - however I'm having difficulty seeing the actual 'swerve' bit.
Is it fine to approach as he does from the right, (close to the right blue cone) and then flick it back through the orange cones?
Would people recommend keeping quite a central body weight as he seems to be doing to enable an easier 'flick'?

Thanks

Don't forget your obs! Even when going back to the centre after he's said the test has finished!

Good speed in the corner will make the speed trap easier, rather than having to screw the arse out of it from the exit.

Good luck - you'll think it was a peace of pish when you pass!

If you look here : https://www.dft.gov.uk/dsa/Documents/MPTC/2009/dsa_mc_diagram_manoeuvring_layout.pdf you can see the mod 1 layout. The swerve part is after the speed trap (the red and yellow cones connected by black lines) through the offset blue cones and back to a controlled stop between the blue cones in front of the white lines.

If you look where you're going and avoid kicking the cones over (don't stare at them, stare between them) you shouldn't have any trouble. The change in direction is a bit more than than half a metre (about one and a half feet) and you have 10 metres (30 foot) in which to make it.

edit: if it helps, the swerve in the vid is: https://youtu.be/bYOUWHrqDJg?t=4m56s and you no longer need to stop with your front wheel in the box, it's merely between two cones.
