Hi all,

I’m new to this and to motorbikes, in fact I passed my mod 2 yesterday Smile. I bought myself a Suzuki SV650 K5 fully faired a few weeks back and didn’t really thinking about the insurance.

The bike came with Remus Revolution Exhaust which is great, maybe a bit loud for the neighbours but hey I don’t mind. I have no knowledge about the mechanical sides of bikes (looking forward to learning) and my insurance company that I have just insured with have asked me two questions

1: Is the exhaust road legal, to that I have said yes because the guy I bought it off used it and he just put an MOT on it which it passed. There is advisory notice on all the MOT’s say: Exhaust noisy [7.1.2] Does that mean anything to anyone?

2: Does the exhaust improve performance by 5%… I have no idea, to me the bike is fast. I have looked on Google and search the only numbers I can find on the exhaust which is GPI e4 2075 the e4 is inside a box in the stamp. This is located right at the back of the exhaust under the outlet.

If anyone could give me some advice on this I would really appreciate it. I’m a little nervous riding it not knowing if I am actually insured.

Many thanks for looking.

Is it stamped with "NOT FOR ROAD USE" anywhere? If not, you're probably gonna be fine, especially if it was MOT'd with it on and you've informed your insurers of the exact exhaust model.

I certainly wouldn't be worrying too much.

Thanks for the reply.

I asked the insurance company if they wanted the part number and they said no. Like you say i guess it must be road legal for the MOT to have passed. I just wonder if it improves performance by 5%.

Be great if someone has the same exhaust or knows if it does.

Thanks again

I can't imagine any exhaust pipe improves performance by 5%, to be honest.

Yes it's road legal, no it doesn't offer a performance increase.

There is no way they can prove that on your specific bike it gave a gain in power as every bike is different.

I wouldn't even have declared it.
