just cleaning up my bike before i ride it, and noticed that the throttle sticks open. i'm new to the biking world, but i belive that this can be associated with a sticky throttle grip, sticky/worn cable or somewhere at the carb?

do bikes have a spring return in the the throttle handle/grip, or is it the spring in the carb that causes the throttle to spring back?

as for lubing the cables, what is the best method?

oh i have a kinlon gy125, Rolling Eyes

cheers

The spring is in the carb. Whip off the carb end of the cable, withdraw the slide/spring and see if the spring is bent/broken.

For lubing the cable, I have always used one of these:

...whilst spraying in some of this:

Disconnect the cable from the twist grip end and spray some of that down it through the tool.

Throttle can stick for the following reasons, in order of likelihood.

1. Sticking at the twistgrip.
2. Sticking inside the cable, or at the cable ends due to fraying.
3. Sticking at the carb end.

If you have dropped the bike onto the right hand side then the handlebar grip could be catching on the bar, particularly if the grip goes over the end of the bar and it doesn't have bar end weights.

Equally possible is it catching on crap or rust between the throttle tube and the bar. The solution here is to remove the tube, clean up the bar underneath it, then reassemble with plenty of white lithium grease between the tube and bar.

If the cable is fraying then you need a new cable.

If the cable is sticking inside then lubing it may help, otherwise you need a new cable.

It is also possible that the cable has been remove and routed incorrectly, which will stop it from moving freely.

Try lubing the cable first. A cable oiler is the best way to do it, an alternative is to drip in 3 in 1 oil whilst working the cable up and down by hand. You will need to undo it at both ends to do this. Takes a few minutes, then you'll see dirty oil dripping out the bottom.
