Jesus christ, it looks like some of my wiring attempts in the bad old days before I learnt to do things properly.
If a garage wired the reg / rec they want bumming. ____________________ 18:54:48 Rob Fzs: jews don't give away stuff for free

TC yeah, i'll be posting up asking how to test it. Long time since i've done wiring... let's hope i can still crimp the wires
Need to get my hands on some heat-shrink too.
I'll shout up on here once i've got the meter and test to see where the problem is.
Blue, i know. it's a wonder the bike's managed the 2000 miles i've put on it.

Right.
So now i have:
New rear end of the wiring loom, need to cut and crimp the new bit to the old front end on the old one.
STILL waiting on the stator coil. shouldn't be long now.
Also got me a nice multimeter that i'll put to use... How do i check this reg/rec, since i dunno what it's off and what connections are what, with the dodgy wiring?
Oh, also got a paddock stand to get the rear wheel off. Woo for no centre stand.

The reg/rec mod is quite a sound and decent mod...if done correctly.
I weep
Never should those connections from the alternator be spade. |

I'd rather none of the connections were spade if i'm honest. As i've said, this bike was taken to an ELECTRICIAN who worked on it for a good few months to sort the problems.
I'm a 19 year old noob, and i can do a better job than that with limited tools and materials.

Remember that program I told you about last night Dunc? Download it and buy the cable then you can put a new map on yourself. IIRC when my dad put a new map on his about 3 years ago it cost him £12. The cable cost £12 then you can do it yourself. You can also edit the maps.

Buy that cable so you can find out what error code it is throwing ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

I have no money and no job anymore, so i'll need to wait till i get some to afford that. i know it's cheap but still
If i can get some ideas as to what it could be... I could get it sorted. if not, i'l just buy the cable next week.

Yeah, i've got a copy of it on the computer.
I'd rather spend the money on that too, but with 5 days pay for the 6 weeks work i've done, it's really got to last me 10 weeks. So anything to save money eh

Did a wee bit more work today. Now i'm REALLY confused.
Took the tank off and the airbox was sitting off the intakes. so i had to re-seat that as the strap has snapped, and tied it down temp with some string.
The Engine Management light is now OFF.
Still misfiring.
Took it all back off again, and changed the plugs and checked all the ignition packs for a spark, which i have.
New plugs in, packs back on, airbox on PROPERLY.
Checked the obvious connections.
took about 40 seconds to fire up. Spluttered a few times but it wouldn't start, then with a couple more shots on the starter it gradually fired up... sounded like it started on one cylinder, then another, then another, then the other.
At this point it was still reading about 60 on the coolant temp.
So i've sorted the airbox, changed plugs, i have an okay spark, and i've checked the connections.
What else could it be?
A bad earth?

Not mega relevant, but the battery strap and the airbox strap are identical. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

See, i'd have found that very useful if both hadn't snapped
i'm betting that all these problems are just caused by duff petrol, and that when i fill up tomorrow it'll start running fine again.
Bloody thing.
As long as it gets me to this interview i'm happy. it can break down on the way back, i don't care. that's what breakdown cover is for.

Righto, bit of news.
Decided to change the oil today, and checked the dipstick for the first time in a while.
It was WAY past the max mark.
So I emptied the sump, and out came over 6 litres of the stuff. filled one oil can to the brim, and a wee bit more into another one.
Thing is, it was absolutely stinking of petrol, so something's up.
I thought to start with that i'd holed a piston or broke rings or something, so checked the compression on each cylinder, and (from what i could tell from my smashed compression gauge) it was pushing out about 140-150psi. Probably more though, i'm not sure. but i know it's over 100psi so that's good.
Anyway. put it all back together again, gave the plugs a clean up before sticking them back in...
With the new oil in the engine is a bit quieter, but it's still misfiring like a mofo.
One thing i did notice is that there is a bit of a fuel leak from the quick release fuel lines on the bottom of the fuel tank. it's got the plastic female adaptors on the bottom of the tank, and metallic male connectors on the fuel line. i've had to seal them up myself due to the leak onto the hot engine, so i'm thinking this might be contributing to it. I'll have to take the fuel and injector pumps off the bike and give it a proper clean up, there's something really not right and i have no idea what it is
