Just watching this on TV and was wonding why the players hit the ball away from their oponent.

I remember from my school days playing badminton (basically the same sport)...

And that if you smashed the shuttlecock (or a ball in this case) at your oponents face with a big hefty forearm smash, they struggled to return the shot and therefore you win a point.

This was always a good technique for me in P.E, and I dont know why they dont try this in tennis, especially since they can hit it at 100+ mph...

It might be worth a shot (no pun intended). Rolling Eyes

Thats probably on par with asking "why doesn't Lewis Hamilton just handbrake it around tight bends? Worked on gran turismo!"

At school you were slow.
Pros are fast. They can even get into a position to return a 100mph serve so dodging a smash and watching it sail over the line would be easy for them.

Yeah, but that's an easy one. No handbrake. Thumbs Up

In Badminton, the shuttle curves down. In tennis, ducking and watching the ball go out is win.

Didn't watch the tennis but there was a programme on BBC3 just now that showed you how they made the strings on the racquets - out of cow's intestines (as well as bone china and leather for car interiors etc). Showed the whole slaughtering process in graphic detail from the initial shooting in the head with the bolt gun to skinning, cracking the bones, gutting etc. Quite a skilled process actually. Om nom nom.
