Well, I took my boots outside for the monthly spraying (to get oil and crap off them) and noticed that the spine at the back of one of my boots has broken! Shocked . I'm wondering, to what degree will this compromise the protection offered by my boots? The design is such that the spine is divided into several sections, and it's the one at the top that's broke Crying or Very sad .

Picture enclosed: What do you think, are they still vaguely usable, or should they be replaced immediatley?

Can't see much from that picture. I would suggest that if something is broken then you replace it. At the end of the day the equipment could save you from injury but if the equipment is broken in the first place then I am guessing that thet aren't going to withstand any impact.

What price do you put on your safety?

Or for the same price you could do your test and get the RVF or R6 you're going on about. Thumbs Up

Andy, my boots have a similr spine thing to yours, personally im not sure what the hell that thing is for. Im half tempted to say its just for the spaceman techno boot look, not sure if it actually does anything in event of a crash.

If it was meant to stop something breaking in a crash, then its a bit of a bad choice of plastic.

A quick squirt of mr sheen, or back to black, or pretty much any polish with silicone in it will sort the squeak out, apparently. Can't remember where I read it but the article was about the vertibra boots. Tried it on my SMX, and it sorted those out.

The only thing that will be light after buying those boots will be my wallet. They're supposed to be the wrong side of £230 when released Shocked .
