Well not so random as we had a slight Idea it might happen.

Not even ten minutes before the collapse I was underneath it all sweeping up.

This is where I was standing just before.

That would probably have been followed by the "compensation?" thread.

I can't find a 'Cool Demolition, Bro' image, so have a pic of Fred Dibnah instead:

I'd knock the rest of that crap down before it decides to follow when you're not so lucky. I'll take my chances against a plasterboard or lath and plaster collapse, but hefty bits of old concrete or stone, NO.

Thought control, I cant knock it all down, its the balcony from the back doors of two flats above, the balcony of two bedsits above that is in the same state that was before it collapsed.

A company were paid by all the property owners collectively to do it LAST july, they should have started in October.

I'm just glad I could see how bad it was getting and stopped my daughter going out into the garden a couple of weeks back.

Well, for some reason the building just shook, my other half felt it too. Nothing else has come down though. Call me paranoid but I'm doubling the efforts of operation house move.

Having seen a few collapses (and been a party to many deliberate ones) - I would be gone from there. Un-intended movement that you can feel is not to be taken lightly.

EDIT:

See in this pic:
https://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee372/theguvnor1/IMG_0842.jpg

The black line in the underside of the balcony looks like a filler joist - a narrow steel joist that WAS supported by that large rotten steel channel/angle which is hanging down. The joists are laid out then concrete fill (with no reinforcing) is set between them. Now that the support is gone the only thing holding that section of balcony it the fact that the concrete is keyed inside that joist. A few good jumps on the balcony will have the lot down IMO.

bugger me mate (not an offer btw!) you better get yourself down the shops for a lottery ticket!

I'd take pete's suggestion and jump up and down on it to bring the rest down whilst you have the opportunity, no point being half-assed about the demo job now is there? Wink

Yeah renting, its all outside, the stairwells have signs on saying don't use but yeah its pretty bad.

I have no idea who decides that sort of thing, someone was meant to be coming from the council yesterday I think but I never saw anyone. The flat owners are all dealing with it. But one of them is an agent who own it themselves so its all foot dragging I think.
