Since I bought the bike I figured I should sit my test soon, luckily there is a place that does lessons and CBT training at the end of my road. So this morning I decided to go and have a word with the instructor. He said that if I wanted lessons on a 500cc it would be £30 per hour. He also said that I should book my theory test as soon as possible then get booked in for the mod 1 and 2.

He said that for the mod 1 it would be about £100 for lessons and test and for the mod 2 it would be about £250. I thought fair enough so came home and decided to check when I could sit my theory test.

My closest test centre would be Bristol, and they had one available for tomorrow (Wednesday) and one on Thursday. I've done lots of online theory tests and only failed the first one I tried and have passed everyone since.

If I went ahead and booked one of these theory tests, would it be realistic to think I would have my full license in under 2 weeks?

I've been riding a scooter and 125cc for almost 18 months now, and I've taken the 600cc up and down the lane at the back of my house a few times, but really want to get out on the road.

Anyway, the point is should I book a couple of lessons just to get me on the bigger bike on the road then go for my theory and everything or do the theory and go straight for the block booking with tests?

My opinion is over on newbie time and time again.
riding for ages, you have learned to do stuff 'by accident'.. ie doing it right, has been accidental, doing it wrong, you have learned by having an accident!
Whether what you have learned by accident is actually 'right', as opposed to merely working, is another matter again, and whether you know what an examiner will be looking for yet another again.

£30p/h seems pretty good. £350 all up, pretty darn reasonable.

Tests are £15.50 for Mod 1, and £75 for Mod 2.... you could do them on your bike, but awkward getting insurance and legally getting it to and from site.

A 'few' lessons cant hurt.... and having been riding, almost certain that you'll have a few bad habbits to get out of, and the instructor will be able to give you a few heads up on what the examiner will expect.

For lessons, and bike to do it on, to make it all easy.... sounds pretty good value to me, and worth a shot, over going it alone, making it harder work for yourself, and increasing risk of having to fork out for repeat test fees.

As for whether you could get it all 'done' in a month? Yeah.... doable.
