A friend pointed me in the direction of someone that was selling a bike rather cheap (they just wanted it gone), he was going to buy it himself but his missus told him to do the house before getting any more bikes. so I am now the proud owner of an XJ600 Diversion Smile

Good news is I got it at a bargain price, and less than a day later it is now running (although the battery is effed).

Bad news is my friend borrowed a trailer to collect it, we got to the end of my street and the tyre burst sending the whole lot over sideways. Now the fairing has a very nasty graze, handlebars have been bent, brake lever has been bent and various other bits of minor damage.

Still looks mint for a 1994 bike though (needed a damn good clean)

finally managed to get the pictures off my camera Smile

All in all the bike is in fairly good condition... I've changed the fluids, and had it running. Although I'm still waiting for my new battery.

Nice. I think it's a pretty good choice for first biggie. Not too powerful, but can still get you in trouble.

Plus bits are cheap and plentiful if you happen to bin it.

Get a wire brush on those little bits of rust, give the whole thing a light coating of WD40, and you've got yourself a very tidy bike.
Nicely done. Wish my first bike had been in that kind of condition.

I should probably point out that I paid less than £200 for it too.

Jesus, I know Divvys go for cheap but that is one serious bargain. I've just shelled out near £200 just for a new exhaust on my 125.

You're gonna tell us next that the bloke's gorgeous 18 year old daughter gave you a world class blow job while you were looking the bike over, just to rub it in a bit more Wink

Nice bike that - and a bargain too. If you have a jetwash, get a liter tin of TFL (traffic film remover) and mix it with a bucket of hot water, gravity-feed that into the jetwash and give it a blast all over. Leave it 20 minutes then jetwash it off with clean water - it'll come up quite nice. Then when it's dried off take a rag/paper towel and go all over the plastics & seat with WD40.

Servicing is a cinch and you can strip the bowls off the carbs and clean the jets without even removing them.

As an entry into big bikes you'll find it perfect and you haven't been spoiled by the extra power of a 16-valver so it should keep you well occupied for a while. You'll find they are very reliable, forgiving to ride, comfortable and agile in heavy traffic.

without sounding like a total retard Pete, how would I go about getting the bowls off? It was stored in a shed for 5 years and I haven't cleaned out the carbs yet so they could be doing with a going over I think.

I have to admit it was a bit of good luck with this bike, I was told they were looking to get rid of it and were looking for £2-3 hundred for it. When I went to see the bike a bike salesman had just offered them £150 for it so they said to me to offer more than that and I could have it Smile

I had been looking at a couple of other bikes as projects, one of which was a CB350 that had literally been dipped in hammerite and would have taken more than the value of the bike to just get the paint off some of the moving parts.

Lift the seat, un-bolt the tank by removing the M8 bolt at the rear (think there's a m6 at the front too), drop the petrol pipes off, remove tank, remove airbox, undo screws on the bottom of the float bowls.

Looking at that bike they might be quite stubborn so see if you can get hold of a proper jt1/jt2 screwdriver so as not to round them off.

Might do well to strip off the tank & seat before washing the bike TBH for better access.
