Just noticed a tack in my back tyre.

As far as I can tell the tyre is not letting any air out as the head of the bolt is across the tread onto the slightly knobbly bits. It's a tubed tyre so should I just pull it out, hope the tube is OK and carry on riding?

If you're lucky the tread depth has prevented the point from penetrating the tube. It also looks really recent because the head isn't worn away.

I'd cross my fingers and pull it out.

If it's a tubed tyre then I hasn't touched the tube or you would know it, pull it out ASAP so it doesn't get forced in any further.

You could try applying some water mixed with a little washing up liquid etc to see if theres any puncture.

But as mentioned, I'd get that out before it does any more damage

Pulled the tack out, tried the liquid on the hole trick and it's slowly letting out air.

I would have thought that if it had gone through the tube then the air wouldn't just be seeping out but gushing out?

I measured the tyre pressures, something I've been meaning to do as maybe unsurprisingly the tyre have been feeling like they needed topping up, or at least I thought the front did. Funnily enough the front was fine but the rear (where the tack was) had gone down to 17 psi.

Bummer. Sounds like a new tube is in order.

PS, the air often doesn't rush out of a tubed tyre as the tube is compressed against the inner face of the tyre at pressure, Then as the pressure drops the leak becomes less 'violent' anyway.

17psi? Think it's telling you it wants to be taken through some mud Wink.

It will do soon, got some progressive fork springs now, just waiting for a rear to pop up on eBay.

I put some air into the tyre last night and checked the pressure this morning and it seems to have lost very little if any at all.
