Hi Guys.
I need some high res images of modern bikes, the kind that are used on desktop wallpapers etc... but with licenses for commercial use!

Ive tried shutterstock, gettyimages and all the usual stock image sites and... theyre all crap!

Now if i google for desktop wallpaper then i get hundreds but i also get very little copyright info etc... so i cant use them Sad

Anyone know of any good links? or photographers that might sell a large quantity of images that i can use?

I need images like this

https://www.motobike.net/images/gallery/1/00000061/00168113_p.jpg

OR

https://www.micrographix.co.uk/imagestore/image_galleries/4_GJ3T3004.jpg

No wheelies or track racing etc... just nice bikes on their own or being ridden on roads with full gear on etc...

Thanks for any info guys!!
Ad,

You mean the biggest most advertised stock photography company on the planet?
Erm.. yes we have tried all the big stock photo companies thanks Smile

Im looking for the kind of image you see in the bike mags, high quality, non-cheesy, modern bikes etc...

iStock and the likes have crappy old bikes, cheesy people that arnt bikers sat waving their arms in the air with no safety gear on...
Also the bikes are usually shot in USA so makes no real use for UK use etc...

There must be somewhere? or someone i can contact to get good photos!!

The manufacturers will make photos available for press & promotional use.

Other than that, I'd suggest contacting the photographers that work for the major UK bike mags, they're probably freelancers and thus open to making some more money.

Because they would have to sign a consent form, and the types of images i need are studio style photos of bikes, and photos of bike being ridden/moving on the road etc...

If anyone has anything that looks like a stock photograph that they will to sign a consent form for us to use then we wouldnt say no Smile

www.flickr.com
Just search, and ask politely. I reckon 98% of the user base would be only too pleased for the exposure.

Yeah i will ask at deviantart and flickr etc...

I cannot use the manufacturers images as they are for press (we are not press) and for promoting their products (which we are also not doing) other than that we are not allowed to use them Sad

Thanks

You don't need a signature, just their consent. A contract by email is just as binding.

If you're desperate for their autograph, I'd suggest that the odds of a pro photographer not being able to print, sign and scan a copy back are slim, verging on the laughable!

The magazines may well have resale rights on the pictures they've licensed as well. I don't know how cheap that's likely to be, it's been a while since I had to deal with photographers.

Ah, well there's your problem. What you want are professional photos for amateur prices.

If they can demand £250 per photo, then that's why the stock agencies have none.

Thats exactly what we want Smile

The images will be used for some very large insurance companies so would be great for any photographers portfolio, im sure there are many photographers who would love the exposure!

Some of the images on iStock etc.. are good but we have exhausted the use of them in previous material and we wanted some more modern machines 2010/2011 models etc... to keep the brochure looking fresh.

But unfortunately our budget does not stretch into the ££££'s Sad

Thing is, if you're wanting them for commercial use then they either need a percentage or a buy out. And a buy out is always going to cost. I generally work with photographers on a total buy out deal and that's when we're providing everything that needs to be shot.

In your situation, unless you're supplying the bikes to be photographed and the location to do it in, then a 'tog has had to source it all themselves and that just makes things exponentially harder. You've either got to luck into amateurs who happen to have access to the relevant machines or you need to pay someone and cosy up with a bike shop that has them all on hand. Otherwise it's going to be bits and bobs and 'well I took some of my mate's bike'.

Find a 'tog, find a shop, try and strike a deal.

What im looking for is someone who already has the images, has already made £££ from them and can just package them up on a disc/email for us and we will throw some cash their way.

Or if anyone on here has some really good photos of a standard bike that could suit a brochure then we might pop a few quid there way.

I was hoping to find a company that supplies a dvd full of images for a set price with high quality images on them for this exact use so we can have a data bank of images!

I wish i had the budget for pro images, but we just simply dont!
And the brochures are advertising a service not products so we cant offer a percentage of anything really.

Im after some images like the RSV4 (above) taken in a carpark or with a good background (no people or mess) etc... so they look almost like the stock images Suzuki and BMW etc.. use for brochures Smile

Sorry, you didn't make that clear - no need for sarcasm, only offering help! We use iStock for loads of stuff thats all and you didn't mention the worlds biggest in the OP. Failing that we pay a photographer to go and get what we need. We find photographers who are trying to get into the business and are usually reasonably priced. Model agencies are great for these types, they're always the photographers who are perpetual 'test shot' types, dead cheap!

We've also bought from magazine cast offs. Either direct from the snapper or from the magazine themselves.

Our last resort, we bought a camera and take the shots ourselves. Not such a dumb statement, we've made huge savings doing this. Send our interns out and get them to be creative, machine gun loads of stuff
(joy of digital over film) and manipulate the images if required.

We've also run photo competitions to build our library of images. Very cheap and loads of seriously good amateur snappers quite happy to sign images over.

Lots of options. Get creative!

Sorry for sarcasm, just your reply was the most obvious option, iStock pops up on every search you ever try on the web for photography.
I was hoping

Thanks for ideas though!
