Amazing cover!
I some how have to 18 without hearing anything off him besides ring of fire. The boss recommended it on monday, listened to some of his other music and seem to have found myself putting his youtube mix on everytime im on the laptop.

It is a good cover but it was a great song in the first place.

He was also a pretty nasty bloke by all accounts.

Even though it's one of his most well known hits and I'm a bit of a Johnny Cash fan, I've never liked Ring Of Fire; I don't think it suits his voice or style, I've no idea what the Mexican horns are doing there and the whole thing sounds disjointed to me, like three songs badly nailed together.

I always thought he did it just to humour June Carter (he never looks comfortable performing it) and, by some fluke, it became a hit.

Woll, you need to ignore that record and dig deep into the massive back catalogue he created, over almost 50 years of recording.

I would say his peaks were in the first few years (before the drugs and booze really kicked in) the late 60s and the live prison gigs, then the last few years when his voice was going, but he put his heart and soul into everything.

Especially check out those Folsom/San Quentin albums, there's some powerful stuff on them.

I'm delving don't you worry Smile the youtube mix has 100 odd songs on it, keeping me amused for hours. Really liking his later music.

My favourite song is Hey Porter, been listening to a fair bit of Marty Robbins recently thanks to New Vegas.

The film 'walk the line' has been on tv a couple of times this week - well worth a watch.

I love the religious imagery.

There's a Sun Studios box set (3CD) you can get in Fopp for about £5. Well worth it as a collection of his earlier stuff, the rootsy country and rockabilly.

Amazing singer, great, great voice.

Ugh. He has destroyed a good song there and his voice is a fail.

A song about Thievery, splendid!

I've got a lot of his stuff, he got a bit dark towards the end of his life. I watched Walk the line and got hooked.

Check out The Highwaymen too Thumbs Up

I'm a huge Cash fan, both his early stuff and the American Recordings albums. (Though like most sane people I pretend his eighties period doesn't exist...)

He's the only man who can do a song about a cowboy and it not sound like a joke - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZfItlZG97Q

However as far as Walk The Line is concerned I think Rich Hall said it best - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvwZHpj2qTY
