I need some advice on my lid. I want a replacement, or atleast for it to be repaired.

It was bought november 2010, so 8 months old.

First issue was really loud wind noise, which the shop assistant partly fixed, I was happy with that.

Second the bag that came with it, the stichting on the strap broke of while I was carrying it over my shoulder. Lid hit ground, slight damage, but still useable.
I feel I am entitled atleast to a new helmet bag. No idea where I stand, trying to get lid replaced on that.

Now, it got soaking wet, so I followed the instructions to remove the padding. I hadnt done it before. I pulled the neck roll from the back, and it came out, as its suppost to.

Except the clips came with it.

Im shocked that they are only glued in (not a proper glue either like epoxy, its some cheap, flexible type). How is this going to stay inplace on impact?
either way, I followed the instructions, and this part is not supposed to come out, and I cant put it back.

shop said they would have to send it off, leaving me without a lid for 2-3 weeks! and they dont think its covered by warranty. Its less than a year old FFS!

All I can do is agree with you on the quality front. I didn't use it long enough to warrant washing it. I suppose AGV don't cover the padding as a warranty item - unless the stitching is falling out. But I'm amazed they won't sort those retaining clips out!

Would you buy another AGV SV? My experience has probably put me off the things for good.

no way. well, that depends on what they say about it, becuase Ive only spoken to shop person so far (who would prefer me, to just buy another)

I want to try on one of those cheap chinky lids with the good sharp ratings. I suspect that they are far better made.

big companys get bored. they are technically excellent, at cutting costs to the limit... thats my experince with everything

Why? I've been using my AGV for nearly 3 years daily use and have only replaced the visor.

Then again, I don't treat it like a footbal or pull it to bits.

To be honest, I'd expect all lids to be "Chinky", to be made for a lot, lot less per unit than we're paying, and for quality to vary from one batch to the next, even if manufacturing doesn't switch to a different factory in order to save 3 Yuan per lid.

But we should still expect whatever we buy to be of merchantable quality and be free from manufacturing defects. Those clips coming out while you were following the instructions is bang out of order. You can get a 4 star helmet for £40, so what are you paying the extra for if not better quality?

As with all consumer issues, your recourse is with the actual seller. Ignore any waffle about "manufacturer warranty". They sold it to you, that's their problem, not yours. You want a full repair, or a replacement, or a refund. Being reasonable, you could ask for 2/3 of the price back.

If they refuse, well, OK, Letter Before Action, then a County Court small claim, and add your costs to the claim.

thanks, in the shop she had me convinced that becuase its a helmet, that it doesnt have a 12 month warranty, which it must do.

How best to go about this? if they say they want to send it off? I suspect they might try to put some costs on me if I want to see it again.

I've had my sv s4 for a year now and am really happy with it,only moan would be it's a wee bit noisy at 60+ without plugs but thats easily remedied, although there does seem to be a large difference in quality between batches which I dont think is really acceptable especially when you trust the lid with your life.

I'd give them the opportunity to send it off at their cost. You'll need to be adamant that the clips did not fail due to "normal wear and tear", since you followed the manufacturer's instructions.

Unfortunately, the accident damage on it does give them an excuse to say that it's been abused. Whether it's worth pushing is really up to you.

If they do try and charge you anything for the repair, then that's a Letter Before Action citing the Sale of Goods Act 1979, section 14 (fitness for purposes, merchantable quality) and say that if they don't return the fully repaired helmet to you immediately then you'll have to buy elsewhere and file a County Court claim against them - and at that point, returning the helmet will not be a reasonable option.

All that said, what I'd do is to stick the clips back in and chalk it up to experience, but I'll admire your spunk if you want to make the seller honour their obligations.

Im not trying to say that the helmets are not good!

The foam and padding are, I expect, very good

And it fits me PERFECTLY!

sure, the visors cost more than a whole cheapy helmet, thanks an annoyance.

Looking at the nitro helmets, they seem to have some good features that I havent seen on big brands yet.

Its just these clips - its a fiber shell. The plastic ones probably have a tab moulded into it as the clips have a space for tab. Maybe, for whatever reson, they cant do that on fibre on the same step on the same machines. But if this part is removable, then it needs to be done better.

Bazza, I expect yours has never got wet, no? sunday dry weather rider I expect? hmm. It has been a fucking monsoon this week, and all my gear has been constantly hanging on the line to dry.

Thanks Roger. Im going to get a spare lid befor i go any further with this. I dont expect I will go as far as letters :/

Did you use the tool thats provided to remove the neck roll? Or does the S4 not require one like the Stealth?

I got my AGv SV Stealth last night looks good, no noise issues this morning on my blat into work and the helmet came with specific instruction to use supplied tool to remove the neck roll.
