 |
|
So I'm keeping the Hornet in the son-in-laws garage until mine's sorted out - long story, reeeeally long, even involves my MP, but that's a whole other story, our local council is wank - so after I'd had me tea, I just nipped it round the corner to put it away. It's only about half a mile, but it took just 100yds to be completely ignored by an idiot woman driving a people carrier. I thought I'd just have a wobble round the estate, just for the hell of being on the bike. At the end of my street there's a roundabout which is kinda large, despite being in the middle of what used to be a huge council estate. Taxi in front of me goes straight over, so I decides to follow him, out to the edge of the estate, where's there's a nice twisty road, just nice for some slow flippage.
I'm only doing about 10-15 mph, onto the roundabout, and I spot this this big grey woman in a big grey box approaching to my left. I knew there was something wrong with her approach speed so I've got half an eye on her and the brake's covered, and the silly cow doesn't even look to her right, just pulls straight onto the roundabout. I just touch the brake and stand the bike up as the bitch sees me. The look of absolute horror on her face was a picture and she slammed her brakes on and pulled over to the side on the roundabout itself, gob open, fat jowls wobbling, moronic like. I just carried on tootling round, glaring at her all the while, with a tiny tiny headshake. Sigh of relief for me, I think she's probably still sat there. She certainly didn't follow me up the road I exited on.
Two days in, first moment. I'm enjoying this too much! ____________________ Responsibility. It's a difficult reality for some. I'm running the 2014 Sheffield Half Marathon on behalf of Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice. Please sponsor me, even if it's just a quid.

My commute takes me over a little mini roundabout where this happens with rather worrying frequency unfortunately, it's at the point where I just crawl onto the roundabout at almost walking pace until I can be certain the oncoming cars have noticed me and are intending on stopping, I've not quite had to bail yet but it's been very very close on several occasions ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

Was doing 20/25 when I realised I had to stop. Looking back on this I laugh, the look on sheer terror on his face when he saw me coming towards his door was priceless.
As for OP, very glad you didn't have a crash. When I saw the thread title I assumed that you'd had an accident, was gutted for you so nice to hear that it was only a close call. |

One launched at the side of my helmet not that long ago. I wobbled a tad, as I ducked, but I think Jodie, who was following me, was in more danger of falling off.... laughing. ____________________ Greetings from Shitsville! |

+3. We have the right, but not the might. I'd rather wave a monger through than go under their wheels.
I often think there must be a market for an inflatable pillion doll that does this whenever you press the "approaching a junction" button:

That's almost a Cool Story Etc....
Suppose as you're still fresh it has had a strong effect. Bit like when i had just done the CBT on a XL125. Absolutely knackered after a day in the rain yet still enough buzz to go for a victory blast..I can see it now..I approach a junction..traffic wants to join from my left and also cross my path into the junction....They did ...at the same time... I somehow wiggled around the 1st car and accelerated and braked past the 2nd one. I knew from that moment on i was mostly invisible. i ride 20 minutes each way on my journey to college.
in a within about 5 minutes, i had someone pull out on my whilst i was on a roundabout...i wasnt watching his face...my eyes were fixed on the ever decreasing gap between his front bumper, and the car next to me...im glad to say i survived...
...only to then have a car pull straight out of a junction to block my path...it was at a low speed...not quite so dramatic...but im still counting it ____________________ MBK Nitro 50, Sold. Kawasaki ER-5, Honda ST1100

I used to get it all the time on the little CG, on the SV, not so much as it has more bulk and brighter lights which make absolutly fuck all differance, the most effective safety feature is the loud can, and even louder Nautilus horn to make them aware of my preasance.
You kinda get used to it and shrug it off, as long as your observations are good enough to allow for thier mistakes
Good excuse for a nice can for the hornet Carlos? and a Stebel magnum/nautilus / BOTH
Do you remember the Think Bike adverts with the big neon signs on the bikes? even that wouldn't work with the shit heads that are out there. |

Really? I ride every day in London and can count on one hand, the number of so called, 'close calls' I've had due to other people's mistakes. I think 99% of the time, it's down to the rider. |
Indeed.
I'd go so far as to say the vast majority of drivers in London are extremely 'bike aware' and I seldom have to take any kind of real evasive action (and on the rare occasion I have, it's mostly been cos I was going too fast or wasn't really paying attention to what was happening in front of me).
The type of thing the OP mentions has happened to me in a car, on a bike, in a lorry and frankly unless I get to the point where I am actually scared and genuinely think I'm about to have an accident, it doesn't even warrant further thought.
Let's be honest, if you saw it develop, reacted to it and went on your way then it was all good. No harm, no foul. That's just 'being a road user'. |

I have less and less instances of this happening these days and I think it's because I now just assume everyone is going to do something fucking stupid But car drivers will always find new ways to be jaw droppingly idiotic and inept. ____________________ The RXS100: vehicle of choice for Chuck Norris |
