Was woken up today by a police officer at my door. Refers to me by name asking if I own a motorbike. At this point I realised my sv650 was no longer on my driveway...

Good news is that the bike was only just around the corner.

Bad news is that it is damaged, will upload pics now!

Glad you got it back and hope the damage isn't too bad.

If it's just around the corner, be hopeful they tried to start it, failed, then just dumped it in a hedge.

Looks pretty ok. Some electrical tape and a new screen and you're away.

Hey,

Sorry to hear about the damage, but it's paltry compared to not having your motorcycle back!

As above, get a ground anchor and an Almax S3 chain, a disc lock and ma-hoosively loud alarm too as a deterrent, if you aren't allowed a ground anchor then find a lamppost.

Personally, I'd ask your landlord if you can put in a ground anchor but sign something saying that when you leave you will have the tarmac fixed so it looks like it was never there, that may sweeten the deal a bit.

Glad you got it back, now step up security.

PERSONALLY, I would suggest storing your motorcycle at a friends/parents/anywhere with someone you trust for the next week or two so that WHEN the would-be theives come back to see it again/nick it again, it's not there.

Cheers!

Is the barrel broken? If not, twist the wires back together and it should go.

Have they shorted/blown something by the 'real good job' of hotwire attempt? Confused

At least they had the decency to break the iridium screen so you can get a tasteful clear double bubble. Razz

Looks like you could plastic-stitch that side panel back together using a soldering iron leaving just a second hand screen to purchase off eBay or similar. Judging by the state of your fork legs you aren't too precious about concours finish... Wink

The ignition wires really need to be properly connected together and heatshrink used on the joints. You really don't want any ignition issues when it gets wet out, nor do you want any sudden loss of power when riding.

Tres dangerous monsieur! Mr. Green

Them cheeky bastards, i cant believe they had the cheek to plaster it with Monster Energy stickers too!

Seriously though, glad you got it back in relatively one piece, i know exactly how it feels. Doesnt look like it will cost too much to put right. Any idea why they wrecked the screen, apart from it being iridium?

If you cant have a ground anchor, how about a big plant pot filled with cement. Put a bit of pipe through it first to pass the chain through. Im sure simmilar has been discussed before Smile
Glad you got it back Thumbs Up

Does your landlord know that your bike was stolen and dumped though? I'd suggest ringing them (I hope it's an individual and not some letting agents or large company) and ask them to reconsider.

I fitted a ground anchor to the exterior brick face of a house I rented once. AFAIK it's still there as it was so discreet that no-one noticed or ever commented. HTH

Oh and they smashed the screen to get to the wires. Probably.

I dunno mate, when I was a student I asked my landlord and he came and put one himself.. infact he put in two as the next door neighbour had a bike too. Also you can always remove it when you move out and fill out the holes, no one will notice or give a sht tbh!

they did a seriously shit job of trying to hot wire it, wonder if it's worth hooking up a flashing red LED somewhere to warn them off?

I know full well theiving scum aren't going to hotwire my CBR with the HISS blinking away, it wouldn't even be worth the bother of trying.

I put a yanchor in at my old place in Lichfield, if anything they add a bit of value (if done right) because they can be used for more than just bikes.

Phoned up my letting agent and he said yeah go for it, can't see it being a problem. But my letting agent was a legend to be fair...

You can get an anchor which is like a moon shaped tube which sits in the ground and the holes are flush with the ground. Most secure there is IMO. When your finished just fill the holes with dirt/cement/anything - never know it was there.
