 |

I couldn't see anything like this so I thought I'd start a thread where people can recommend Mechanics they have used for their Bikes.
I'll start with Russel Motors by Clapham Junction:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?q=russell+motors&hl=en&cid=13313581937532277249
They came highly recommended to me by a guy I work with who uses them all the time.
I've been in once before, but I went in again this morning because I thought I needed a new chain and sprocket for my bike because the chain was really loose and it had been tightened not that long ago. I expected to be told to come back in a couple of days to have them fitted.
They recognised me immediately and asked what I needed. Even though it was 9am and he was in the middle of working on another bike he took the time to look at my bike straight away.
He told me that although it was getting to the point I needed a new set (and showed me exactly how to tell, by how loose the chain was on the sprocket) he thought I'd probably get another thousand miles out of it before it needed a change.
Then he offered to tighten the chain and grease it while I had a cuppa at the cafe round the corner, and told me to keep an eye on it according to how he'd shown me and give him a ring when I thought it was ready and he'd order in a set for me and fit it at my convenience.
I went back to get it and asked him how much he wanted, and he shrugged and said a fiver.
I gave him a tenner, Great guys, great service.
So lets hear other peoples recommendations for those of us that don't do all our maintenance ourselves! |

A tenner for tightening a chain? Man im gonna change jobs, i could do chains all day!
Seriously though.....you really should be learning to do this kind of thing yourself. Its easy to learn and in my experience, you will do a more accurate job than most garages because you care that bit more.
For what its worth, im in Poole and for things i cant do myself i use spanners in Wallisdown. Very fair prices, and no job is too small.

Rob's fantastic and the only person other than myself and one friend I'd let work on my bike. Once he knows you he is a very handy chap to know if you're a biker.
He also instructs at Ron Haslam Superbike School, so he knows a thing or two about riding as well as spannering! ____________________ MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR, Unfinished 1978 XS250 |

Eastern Cruisers in Southend.
Used them for MOT's and they've been great every time, and they have some really interesting custom bikes all over the place to look at whilst you're waiting. |

Not strictly a workshop but our very own Marmalade is a bit of a star at the road side, I believe it is against his religion not to stop (unless he's on a mission) to a stranded bike or car at the side of the road.
He spent quite a few years on the recovery trucks in & around the Bristol area where I heard he had the best get the punter going rate in the company.
I can personally vouch for him, having done an engine swop on my old pan and another time finding a fault that had plagued me with numerous burnt out starter relays, had been in & out of garages without success until that is I rather convienently broke down again a few miles from him, he managed to get me back to his house where he stripped it down into the late evening and found the fault and managed to replace the offending item with bits from his Pan graveyard

Louth Motorcycle Training
https://www.lmtmotorcycles.co.uk/
They have had me for all my CBT's and my first license which I passed first time. And are a Hyo dealer, they have had my engine since last July and everytime I have phoned up to ask when it will be done or when they wnat the money for it, they just tell me to phone them when I am starting my lessons again and they will start to rebuild it.
For a full engine strip down, new bearings all round and gear box, they only want £250, which is along with swing arm bearings, swing arm rubber chain thingy, and numerous other bits. I can't complain at all.
And 2weeks ago I phoned them desperately needing a new visor for my lid, to go to Silverstone for the GP they told me that if they couldn't find one in stock they would give me a brand new lid to go, as long as I brought it back in the same condition it went in.
They are a set of top notch guys, and never fobbed me off, by saying I need something I don't or trying to sell me something that isn't needed, like when I was needing my calipers to be stripped and rebuilt, they told me to order the parts through them then go round to Louth bikes and get them to fit the parts since they were cheaper, and had time on the books.
On the training side, Keith who is one of the instructors is a real good guy, never gets pissed off with you or, mardy when you mess up, just tells you that you could have failed your test there, or you need to pull over for a smoke, and talk about why you just messed up. Really can't recommend them enough.
And even when my bike was in another shop, and they couldn't find out what was wrong with it I phoned them up being cheeky and asked them what was wrong and told them where it was and they still helped me out. Which is more than can be said for the shop that it was in, ROBSPEED GRIMSBY who are absolute scamming bastards and deserve no time or money off anyone, they are rude, and try to make money off the unsuspecting. I went in for my clutch to be sorted out (2weeks after buying the bike) and they told me I needed a new tyre, which they told had been fitted a few days before I picked it up. Total waste of time and do not deserve anyone's money at all. |
