When i got my bike it sounded great, due to copious amounts of rust/holes in the exhaust. obviously i had this welded up but now the bike is mega quiet. if i were to take a drill to the end can am i likely to run into issues come MOT day? Id love a supertrapp megaphone end can, but these are expensive, and a cruiser is going to look utter crap with a sports bike style 'universal' jobbie. I dont want a LOUD bike, but it would be nice to hear the tickover in traffic.

erm, yes, almost definately.

Is there any way you can get an aftermarket slip-on can for day-to-day riding, and keep an original so that you can re-fit it come MOT day??
Not that I condone fitting a race or similar can, but I use an aftermarket Beowulf can (with baffles removed) on a daily basis, and never had any unwelcome attention from the boys in blue. Thumbs Up

I could get an aftermarket jobbie, but its a cruiser, so its going to look awful. Ive been on the lookout for a standard can for ages now that i can butcher, but they are like rocking horse shit.

Drill holes, insert screws/bolts/rivets for MOT. Check you're not running lean after doing it though.

Just found a link on youtube from someone who has drilled their exhaust, massive improvement.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itvTKtIym_8&feature=related

Is it just going to be as simple as drilling a few holes in the end plate, or are the drill holes going to have to go mega deep into the can? Ive read a how to for a honda rebel and theres talk of 12" drill bits Shocked

In theory a metal rod rammed through the baffle plates would work, unless the silencer internals are about to collapse, or you got a 2m piece of steel bar stuck in your silencer and can't pull it out Laughing

Penetrate gently at first, thrust deeper until complete aural satisfaction is achieved.

so just to confirm, am i drilling holes around the outlet of the end can, or taking a long drill bit/metal rod to the baffle plate inside?
